    Steve Nash Named league MVP

Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash will be awarded the NBA's Most Valuable Player on Sunday.

Nash has edged Miami center Shaquille O'Neal to become just the third point guard in 40-plus years to win the league's highest individual honor, according to sources familiar with the results. The others are Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson

Apparently tipping this vote in Nash's favor was the Suns' 33-game improvement -- from 29 wins to a league-leading 62 wins -- after signing Nash away from the Dallas Mavericks in the offseason.

Congrats to Nash. My pick would have been Shaq, but Nash had a tremendous year as well.

The Nets didn't have the best record in the league, though. I believe San Antonio did that year. Team record factors in heavily (as it should).

He really deserves this because he was the most "valuable" player to his team. They didn't have him on the court, they lost. Simple as that!

    I think so, most likely.

Well, while I voted for Shaq to win, Nash was equally as deserving and I'm just as happy for him. What he did with the Suns was tremendous, they went from a 30-win season to a 60-win season and that's the only the 2nd time that happened in NBA history. So congratulations to Steve Nash. He now becomes the 2nd player under 6 foot 6 in 40 years to win this Award. He is the 3rd shortest player overall in NBA history to win the MVP (Allen Iverson 6?0, Bob Cousy 6?1, Steve Nash 6?3) and the first PG since Magic Johnson.

And as a footnote, while Nash and his teammates are rejoicing over this, Shaq is supposedly not...

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">O'Neal would not talk to reporters Friday after Miami's practice. Teammates suggested his mood may get even worse if he's snubbed for MVP honors.

`Oooh, that would be scary. If he doesn't win it, it's going to (make him angry),'' said Alonzo Mourning, who finished second in the 1999 MVP voting and third in 2000 -- when O'Neal was chosen as the top player. ``I don't want to play against him if he's (angry). Glad he's on my team.''</div>

Good luck to either the Bulls or Wizards.... [IMG]

Wow I didn`t know they announced the award this early. Anywho, big congrats to Steve Nash on becoming the MVP. We all know what he has done for the Suns and the NBA this season and it`s easy to say this guy can flat play.

Snubbed. I thought NBA was trying to promote defense, I guess not. Definately Duncan didn't earn it on offense alone.

Wow, Steve really deserved it, I didn't think they were going to give it to him though because he is a point guard.

BTW, the Wizards aren't worried about Shaq...ok, you saw right through that lie

Steve Nash deserved it and I'm proud because he's Canadian, however, Shaq deserved it more than him.

In related news, when Eddie Jordan heared the news, his reaction resembled in three simple words: "NO NOO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO", screamed Jordan!!

Congrats to Steve Nash winning it this year! He deserved it and as long as it went to either Steve or Shaq, I would be happy.

I thought <font color="Red">Shaq</font> was going to win it since he's only won one in his career. But I can't argue that Nash had a fantastic season.

I guess Shaq will have to settle for another <font color="Red">NBA FINALS MVP </font> [IMG]

it was a toss up, I think alot of Nash fans would say Nash was snubbed, but not on this board in particular. IMO, I think Nash deserves it more, especially becasue of the whole turnaround of the 30 to 60 win season(although that wasnot all Nash's doings).

This will certianly drive Shaq to win the Finals MVP...that is if the Spurs don't beat the heat, which of course, they will [IMG].

Nash played very well, but I really think Shaq deserved the MVP award more then Nash did.

Steve Nash deserves this. He's had a huge role in turning the Suns around from last season, and he does a great job of running the high scoring Suns offense. When Nash wasn't on the court, the Suns lost a lot of direction. Shaq would have also been a deserving MVP.

Nash played well this season but a good reason why he played so well is because he was in Point Guard Heaven. He has two athletic big men with jumpshots, two excellent 3 point shooters who are all fast and athletic and run the floor well. That's many PG's dream. He was put in an excellent position. But congrats to him though.

I pull for the point guard, just like I did when Kidd was going for it.

You just lead your team more as a point guard, and that weighs heavily in my MVP opinion.
