I thought Shaq will win this. Congratz NASH tho. Nash did really have a fantastic season, leading the Suns to the best record in the league, and they keep winning... But i dun see he will win the final MVP. The Spurs player will get it
Nash deserved it, but Shaq even more, Nash really helped the Suns, but he was not the only reason they got better, the improvement of Joe Johnson and Amare, addition of Q-Rich, the playing style the coach decided to run, those were all reasons they got better. Also the way the teams offense ran really helped him in getting the award. I would've given it to Shaq, but Nash did good and deserve it too, and he is Canadian. One other thing is that Nash is not even a core or franchise player, he's just a good player that has a certain role on a team. Out of all the MVP's ever, he's like the worst one, the Suns needed someone to run the offense and be a playmaker and he filled the role, it's like if the Cavs added Redd and won 60 games, would he be an MVP candidate?

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting og15:</div><div class="quote_post"> it's like if the Cavs added Redd and won 60 games, would he be an MVP candidate?</div> naw...because redd's game isnt making people better. nash made his teamates better, he's more VALUABLE to the team then redd would be to the cavs. even Z would be more valuable then redd imo but nice try

If anything, he proved he deserved more credit than people gave him for LA's success in the past. Note that the Lakers didn't make the playoffs this year, and they did last year. Shaq was placed into a similar - not identical, just paper-similar - situation with Wade, which is comparable to that of Kobe and the Lakers (of course, Kobe and Wade are two very different players and personalities.) He proved to be the main factor in both situations. This, I think, certainly scores points for him on the MVP scale. Moreso than anything else, Nash received the MVP award for the Suns' drastic improvement, at the very least in the wins column. I will readily concede that the addition of Richardson and the improvement of Stoudemire and Johnson were very important to this improvement; however, I believe that Nash was the catalyst that translated these additions and improvements into concrete wins. Most of the team, with the (notable) exception of Richardson played with Marbury for a part of last season, with little success. Of course they improved during the offseason, but Nash showed that a solid point guard was what the Suns needed to translate the immense amounts of talent and potential they possess into concrete results. The change in style of play you mention is a very good point; however it fell directly into Nash's personal style. Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemire, Joe Johnson and Quentin Richardson are all quite athletic - which suits Nash perfectly. With good court vision and passing skills, he can hit any of those players for an easy score. I will, though, give D'Antoni a lot of credit for making this change. I am beginning to wonder whether or not the change from Dallas to Phoenix was so large for Nash - large amounts of points scored, large amounts of points allowed. I think, however, that the players Nash fed the ball to all season and during the playoffs are better as a unit and as individuals than they were in Dallas.

Also Redd's shooting would make his teamamtes better because it would open the floor for them. People many times underatte the value of an elite shooter, but they can have a great effect on the game.
Not to be silly, but if Redd went to the Cavs and they won a whole bunch of games, why can't he win MVP? Isn't he the most valuble player?
hmmm i didnt think steve nash would win it. i was hoping allen iverson would win it A.I deserves it more than Steve Nash.
I don't think it's correct to take into account the Lakers downturn in the MVP voting. It's about who's most valuable to their team this year, not last year. It doesn't make sense to give Shaq an award for most valuable player based on his impact on his previous team.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I agree that A.I deserves it more than Nash.</div> In terms of hard work, yes Iverson deserves it more than anyone because Iverson never has the luxury of sitting out an entire 4th quarter like Nash has it. But you can't blame the Suns for breezing through teams lead by Steve Nash and have things flow easier for him because their so dominant. So as much as I would love to see Iverson get it because there is no one who has worked harder than he has this season, Nash truly deserves it particularly because of the face lift he gave this team and then you add the fact that they won 62 games. If and only the 76ers for 50 wins, then my choice would be A.I, but to me an MVP you have to get at least 50 wins.
One thing I would like to point is that Steve Nash was originally born in Africa but changed his citizenship to Canadian. So technically, he's not the first Canadian NBA MVP.
Congratulations to Steve Nash. I thought Shaq was more deserving than Nash of the award, but I was routing for Nash (he's Canadian...ya know). It could of gone either way. Shaq had one of his worse seasons statisically, but his impact and transformation of the Heat overshadowed his non-shaq like numbers. A guy name Dwyane Wade played with him too...and his rapid development helped gain Shaq some votes, even if in reality it's possible Shaq had little to do with his development. Nash was put in a situation where he dreamed to be. He played with a star, a rising superstar, a potential star and a player in the middle. He helped the progression of Amare and JJ and also helped Q with his unselfish play and penetration. He also put Marion back in a situation to be an all-star by getting him the ball where he needs it to excel and suceed. Of course, every real PG should be able to do what Nash does (penetrate, attract D, find the open player), but he did it for the whole season better than any other PG in the league. Nash to himself was the last scoring option on the court, which helped a lot in the Suns sucess. I have to say, he was/is probably given too much credit for the Suns sucess, but he did have a huge factor and impact on it. He deserves it though. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Chungster:</div><div class="quote_post">One thing I would like to point is that Steve Nash was originally born in Africa but changed his citizenship to Canadian.
