^ Yup he was born in South Africa, but both of his parents are Canadians and they moved to BC when Steve was very young.

Thank the lord that Steve won it.

I'm tired of seeing point guards get passed over for this award when they truely make their teammates better on the court. I consider this award as being more than a recognition of Nash's greatness, but to also be an alology to Jason Kidd, and other point guards who were passed over in the past.

Congrats Steve, because there was a time when people didn't think he would even stay in the league, and now he's the MVP.

...How does PJ Brown get a 5th place vote?

Whoever voted for PJ should not be allowed to vote for anything again. They're probably the same person who voted Shaq as MIP.

Nash is a heck of a player and had a terrific year. He's more deserving than A.I i think, but the bottom line is this is Shaq's award. He's deserved it many many more times than the 1 time he actually got it. People overlook Shaq, which may seem impossible, but it happens.

Nash did good, but you have to consider that many voters were thinking, why not give it to the little guy, look at him without too much athleticism etc doing so well. Everyone makes it seems like the other Suns players are not even competent, how many of Nash's assists come from just passing to JJ or Q-Rich for three's, and fastbreak dunks and layups? How many other bigm en in the league can catch and finish some of those passes that Amare does, hardly any. Not taking anything away from him, but the personell on the team helped him get this award maybe even more than his play did.

You have a fastbreak of 2 three point shooters on the wing, and 2 athletic guys cutting to get layups or dunks, yea, I'm pretty sure you'll lead the league in assists. I know many predicted he'd lead the league, and with double digit assists, even before the year started. I mean I'd say it's more impressive for Brevin Knight to average 9 assists in 30 MPG on the Bobcats than it is for Nash to average 11.5 in 34 MPG on the Suns.

Anyways, Shaq had a great year, but I feel Shaq got snubbed again because of people saying look at how big he is, and he should be an MVP every year, so let's not give it to him?

Nash sucks! If not being around with a coupla talent players he's just among average players struggling for the playoff, just the way he's in Mavs.

Horrible players always win the MVP, you know?

Really the biggest stat that makes me wonder about his assists is that the majority of them come from three pointers. Not even the easy assists, 52.6% of Nash assists come on jumpshots, that's fine, but 33% are on three's. 6.1 assists per game are on jumpers, and 3.8 on three's.

You look at a guy like Brevin Knight, and he got 1 assist a game from three's, Jason Kidd, 1.3 assists a game on three's, even a guy like Bibby with good 3PT threats only averaged 1.4 asssits on three's.

Things about this year's MVP voting that bothers me.

    1. A few writers did not even vote for Shaq on their ballots.
    2. Kobe Bryant did not receive a single point in the balloting.
    3. PJ Brown receiving a 5th place vote?
    4. Tim Duncan finishing below Dirk Nowitzki

I don't mind Steve Nash winning the award, but I think Shaq was more deserving of it. Shaq was not as dominating as he was in previous seasons, but he did manage to play 73 games and he made the Heat title contenders since day 1. Shaq also makes an impact on defense, which Nash doesn't do. Nash had a great year, and the Suns posted an impressive record, 62 wins is amazing, especially in the better conference.

Before I would even start aruging, why do you believe he should have recieved a vote? It's one thing to do your best and manage to make the Playoffs but not making the Playoffs at all is pretty hard to convince anyone to vote for him. And when you add the fact that he missed a significant amount of time due to thee ankle injury plus he averaged a career high in turnovers and his second lowest FG% of his career, I just find it hard for him to get a vote.

If anything Duncan should have finished below Iverson. Duncan simply missed too many games and his team had yet another San Antonio Spurs like season which is practically a 50+ win season, so all you could really look at was his stats, in which fell of just a tad. I find him lucky that he finished 4th.

I would have actually voted for Iverson as MVP for this season. I forgot to add him being voted 5 as something that bothered me.

As for Kobe he was the MVP of the All-Star Game, was second in the league in scoring, and averaged 25/6/6. He was also 2nd in NBA Player Efficiency per 48 minutes. Link Actually he didn't shot a career low in FG% because his career lows were in his first two seasons. He only shot .05 points lower than last year while taking more shots.

People still voted for KG and LeBron, and neither of them made the playoffs.

He missed 16 games, that might have been the reason he was not considered, but he still played enough to be considered for the rest of his numbers. So I'm not sure if missing 16 games should take him out of the running.

As for turnovers, both Allen Iverson and Dwayne Wade averaged more than Kobe.

I'm not arguing Kobe deserved 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd place votes, but for him to not receive a single vote is ridiculous.

But the overall impact they had on they're team and teammates made by far much more noise opposed to what Kobe brought to this new look Lakers team. Also remember that both the Timerwolves and Cavaliers just barley missed the Playoffs unlike the Lakers which were out of Playoff contention way before it came down to ?every game counts? for final Playoff seedings so that definitely might have played a role. And the season LeBron James had this season it's hard not to give him any votes, whether he made the Playoffs or not. You witnessed the type of season he had and again a season like that cannot go unnoticed. From those triple doubles, that 50 point game, amazing highlights, clutch shots and the whole nine yards, LeBron was amazing. Garnett on the other hand simply had another Garnett like season which is always an MVP season, it's just that his team barley(keyword) missed the Playoffs.

Okay, maybe missing sixteen games shouldn?t completely take him out of consideration for MVP, and while you made a good point about his stats, ask your self this. How much noise did Kobe make this season? Yes, the stats are there but compare the noise that he made to players such as Nash, Shaq, Dirk and so on, Kobe is pretty much mute. Heck, Gilbert Arenas made more noise than Kobe this season. That said I just don't see why it would be a crime that he didn?t get any votes, but then again to think that P.J Brown actually got a vote maybe a couple votes for Kobe wouldn?t hurt.

Kobe made plenty of noise, but it was the wrong kind. He was ripped apart from day one by the media. Only now is the REAL story coming out on the Laker mess. Regardless, of noise, as you put it, Kobe's numbers aren't far off from what he did last year. Those numbers were good enough for him to finish 5th in the voting. The Lakers were a playoff team for the majority of the year, they just collapsed in the final month and a half.

I think the difference all season long for Kobe compared to KG and LeBron was Kobe took all the blame for the Lakers losing from the media, but KG's and LeBron's teammates took all the blame when they failed to make the playoffs.

I think Kobe could maybe get some 5th place votes, but you'd Shaq, Nash, Duncan, Dirk, Tmac, Iverson, Lebron, Garnett and even Wade and Arenas could be easily put over Kobe. So considering just the first 8 players, it's pretty hard for Kobe to be getting votes for not winning much, his team going 2-19 to end the season, and not making the playoffs.

Nash has made a huge impact for that team this year, so I think he deserves it. Shaq, Duncan, and Iverson would be the only others who I believe deserved to get the award. Great accomplishment for Nash.

I can't put in words how happy I was when I found out that Steve Nash won the MVP over Shaq. But I hope Shaq doesn't use it as motivation and play better to help the Heat to the championship. that would suck.

I do believe Nash should have won but some of the voters are way messed up. PJ Brown got a vote for first in the mvp voting . . . . pj brown? Just because you like a player doesn't mean you should give away a vote that could decide who the award goes to. Some ballots didn't even have Shaq on it? It's those Canadiens and their mounties, they are controlling the NBA!!!!

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Kobe made plenty of noise, but it was the wrong kind. He was ripped apart from day one by the media.</div>

To be honest in a way they the media rightfully had the right to do so. Reason being is because Kobe supposedly got what he wanted as in Shaq and Kobe departures but he failed to deliver. He wanted to take on the Jordan role and wanted this Lakers team to be his and his team alone, so when he failed to deliver the media ate him alive. If Kobe avoided the off-court distractions he wouldn?t have been put in this predicament and wouldn?t be look upon as the one who wanted Kobe and Phil out, but putting himself in the positions as the scapegoat that wanted those guys out because he think it would be best for him and the team and then failing to deliver this season will be looked at as bad season. If he stayed away from the whole management and ?Kobe the GM? drama some people would have pity for him and see that he tried his best with this new look Lakers team, but since he supposedly wanted this and failed to deliver this season was a failure. Hey I don?t know if this was really Kobe intentions (Shaq and Phil departure) because if it was, again the media had the right to criticize him the way he did, but if this whole thing wasn?t his intentions and the media ate him anyways, that?s his fault because he should have stayed away from that stuff. While it seems a little unfair that the media got they?re way with him even though what happened wasn?t his intentions he should have stayed away from the off-court stuff because that?s come with the territory when you?re in the NBA. You have to learn how to handle these things.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Kobe's numbers aren't far off from what he did last year.</div>

They're aren't that far off, but they're still a tad off from last year and heading into this season we were convinced by the media that we would be seeing some amazing from Kobe this season because this would be his time to shine. But yet we did not see nothing spectacular whatsoever. Kobe being the number one guy on this team, majority of NBA followers even I would expect major numbers from Kobe's but yet he didn't even win the scoring title maybe if his stats took a slight increase but the fact that they actually went down is not very attractive.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Those numbers were good enough for him to finish 5th in the voting. The Lakers were a playoff team for the majority of the year, they just collapsed in the final month and a half.</div>

Yes, the Lakers were a Playoff time for quite some time but after the All-Star break they just disappeared. I'm not sure they were in playoff contention by the time All-Star break began, but lets say they were, they were hanging in there by the skin of their teeth and to completely fall of and going into a stretch in which they went 2-19 it's hard to get noticed. The difference with this season and last season is when it was coming to down to the Playoffs(2nd Half) the superstars showed up and made a run late in the season to get they're team ready for the Playoffs and in some cases make the Playoffs. Well this time around Kobe disappeared into thin air. From losing to the disgruntled Knicks, barley beating the Bobcats, loosing to the Jazz and then taking a horrid shot the following game when his teammate(Luke Walton) didn't deliver in crunch time(that really but a hurting to his leadership qualities) and so on, Kobe just didn't get things flowing this season. And what made matters just a little worse is that the team finished the season with a 5-game losing streak and winning just one game over the last 10 games.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I think the difference all season long for Kobe compared to KG and LeBron was Kobe took all the blame for the Lakers losing from the media, but KG's and LeBron's teammates took all the blame when they failed to make the playoffs.</div>

You right, and the reason why is because of what I mentioned above. If Kobe didn't put himself into these predicaments as being the scapegoat that wanted Shaq and Phil out, he would get the same pity that LeBron and Garnett got. Hey, when the T-Wolves win, Garnett gets the credit, when the Cavs when LeBron gets the credit but when they're respected teams lose the teammates take the blame (pity factor) but in Kobe case when his team losses he takes rather than his teammates taking the blame he takes the blame because in the end of day these are the teammates that he wanted.

I wonder if there were any people who didn't vote for Nash at all on their ballots? Do the ballots get made public?
