Shaq tells Lakers boss to grow up

    07may05

SHAQUILLE O'Neal hit out at his former NBA boss yesterday, saying Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss needed to set a better example and act his age.

"I didn't need motivation," Miami Heat superstar O'Neal said. "I needed a real owner, not a guy that parties with girls three times (younger than Buss). When you're 60, hang out with 60-year-olds, not 20-year-olds.
"You can quote me on that. I've got nothing else to say about Jerry Buss."

O'Neal was reacting to Buss's comments that he didn't regret trading O'Neal, despite the Lakers' struggles without him.

Buss said he might not have made the deal for Lamar Odom, Brian Grant, Caron Butler and the first-round draft pick if O'Neal, a three-time playoff MVP, had taken better care of his health.

"I don't regret him losing money and him not making the playoffs," said O'Neal, who played eight seasons with the Lakers.

Buss also took credit for O'Neal's resurgence with the Heat.

O'Neal led Miami to the best record in the NBA's eastern conference and a first-round playoff series win against New Jersey.

Buss said O'Neal lost 27kg (actually 14kg) this season because the trade to Miami motivated him.

"It seems that the motivation for him to lose weight was to trade him," Buss said.

"If I had known he was going to lose the weight, I probably would have made a different decision."

O'Neal began his pro career in Orlando, but in 1996 moved to Los Angeles for $150 million.

O'Neal won three consecutive NBA championships with the Lakers, from 2000-02.

I have nothing wrong with Jerry Buss hanging out with chicks in their 20's. They want his money so he should be able to be around them. But Shaq should grow up. All of what Buss said is absolutely true.

LMAO Shaq should grow up and leave his lifelong grudges out of the media to begin with. Funny how ever since shaq left, Kobe hasnt said shaquilles name to the media if im not mistaken, yet shaquille has taken every chance to take digs and show that he indeed does not know how to hide his hurt/anger towards KB8 and LA, though he claims he has a wife n kids and dont care?. lmao

If mr shaquille didnt care, why is HE the one always responding to the media? Simple....cause he cant let it go, his ego took a dive when they traded em for subpar players.

Bottom line, Shaq was told he was Expendable....and that killed his ego. Just keep your mouth shut and win championships, your career is winding down as quick as your numbers are falling, enjoy your last 2-3 yrs and retire.
