Whos your guys' top choice for PG. I'd say my top choices are Dickau, Jay Williams, Antonio Daniels,Hughes and as a last resort Gary Payton. If we get a pick somehow in the draft I like Felton. There is a bit of risk involved in choosing any of these guys as a starter because they either aren't a prototypical Pg (Hughes, Daniels) or they are unproven (Dickau, Williams). If Jay Williams starts turning some heads in individual tryouts I think this could be a HUGE pickup for the Cavs. He could come relatively cheap. Who do you guys like??
I don't really like any of those PG's to run the backcourt with LeBron James. The perfect PG for LeBron James would be Mike Bibby, but there is no way that's going to happen or more like there is no way that can happen.
perfect fit The perfect PG for LBJ would be Damon Jones. He gives LBJ the three-point threat he needs, he is cheap, he can handle the ball and is comfertable letting lebron handle the ball (like he did with DWade this year).
I agree with you Jwohl, I think he would be great there, but I don't know if he would be a perfect fit. I think aside from the three point he is lacking, and not only does Lebron need help with the three pointers but he needs someone to take the pressure off of him. For the most part there is no premier free agent point. I would try and move somebody to fill that vacancy. If they can't make a trade take Jones and than wait out the season and get a better free agent next year and move Jones to sixth man.
I'm going to throw out another name, who I feel would be a great fit to play alongside LeBron James ... Marko Jaric. Marko Jaric brings a 3point threat, plus he is a great defensive guard. He can also play both PG or SG, because he stands at 6'7, plus he can create his own shot. The only downside with Jaric has been his health, but it seems to be a common problem for anyone in a Clipper uniform. When players eventually leave, their health concerns miraculously disappear. Marko Jaric is also younger than a lot of the players mentioned above (26), giving him time to develop with LeBron and the rest of they young Cavs. Scratch off Gary Payton, he's both ancient, and would want no part of the rebuilding being down with the Cavs. He only as at most 2 good years left, so why waste everyone's time by bringing in a player who won't be around for the long haul. They already have Eric Snow as the senior citizen PG. Sort of the same situation for Antonio Daniels. He will be 30 next season, and he's better suited for teams who have a chance at winning a title. The Cavs would have to overpay for his services. You can also throw Damon Stoudemire into the, "too old" category. He's already 32, and he needs to dominate the ball to be effective. He's also undersized and will be a liability on defense. The Cavs have the potential to make the playoffs next year, but they won't be a factor for a good 2 or 3 more seasons. So you have to add at least 2 or 3 more years to these players ages. Larry Hughes is a nice fit, but he's not going to leave his situation in Washington playing alongside Gilbert Arenas. He's also going to be an expensive acquisition, and the Cavs can get all the things he does on the floor for cheaper by getting Jaric. Of course Hughes is a better player and more athletic, but they both bring defense and shooting to a team nontheless. Damon Jones? I think he's the worst choice mentioned for LeBron's running mate. Damon Jones is having a career thanks to Shaq's presence and Dwayne Wade drawing constant double teams. Until the Cavs bring Shaq aboard scratch off the one-dimensional Damon Jones. He's a terrible defender and is also pushing 30. He's only averaging 6.8 PPG in his career. Jay Williams is too, much of a risk to even consider. He's coming off a career ending hip injury and there's no chance he'll be capable of playing starter minutes anytime soon. He'll be lucky to be 3rd on the depth chart, especially with all the PGs coming out in this year's draft. The most I'd offer him is a 1 year deal at the league minimum. Dan Dickau is a solid choice, but he's practically a lock to be back with the Hornets next season. He's already been featured in their marketing campaigns and he played very well under Byron Scott's system. Of course if the Hornets draft Chris Paul, then Dan Dickau becomes expendable.
Nice post Shape. I too would like Jaric even though he is not my first choice. The Clippers system and personnel are not a good fit for him right now and he could be the Cavs future PG. Got to disagree with your post about JayWill though. I know it's a fantasy and he'll never get back to the way he played before the injury but he is definately someone to look at. If it was a "career ending hip injury" like you said then why is he already working out and getting calls from other teams. Im realistic though, and its a long shot that he could play as well as he use to but it might be a risk worth taking if some of the other guys are off the board.
Jaric is an intriguing choice...the guy at PG needs to be a good shooter, particularly from 3, and also a decent defender...Antonio in the backcourt with Bron would be extremely athletic...he's a nice penetrator, does not turn the ball over and can slash...if the Cavs sign a shooter at the 2 or swingman spot, then I would sign Daniels if I were them...
Jaric would be a nice pick up for the Cavs, considering he's age and shooting ability. He would be my first pick for them, as the Clippers aren't really going anywhere anytime soon, so he might want to leave. Some of those other guys could be good, but I'd definately like to see Jaric here next season.
Marko Jaric will likely be let go by the Clippers because they are going to re-sign Bobby Simmons and they want to make Shaun Livingston the full time starter. Jaric is too, good of a player to come off the bench so the most the Clippers can hope for is a sign and trade. Flight23, I'm pulling for JayWill to make a full recovery, but you have to be realistic about his injury. I was just pointing out, a player coming off a "career ending injury" will never be the same. I'm sure he's getting a lot of interest from teams because they are curious to see if he can still play in the NBA. After all he was the 2nd pick in the draft in 2002 and still in his early 20's. I just think the Cavs have better options than to take a risk on JayWill at this point. Even if he comes back, how long will it be before his injury starts to nag him. What happens if he takes a hard foul and doesn't get back up from it? At best, the Cavs might want to bring him in to be number three on the depth chart behind Jaric (if they sign him) and Eric Snow.
The Cavs will definately have room on their roster for a 3rd PG if they want to try the "JayWill experiment." You got to figure Harris, Diop, Williams, JMac, and Dwag are going to be gone.
Antonio Daniels? <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"The Bulls like Seattle?s Antonio Daniels, but the Ohio native figures to be a good fit for Cleveland if he doesn?t stick with the Sonics. Utah guard Raja Bell is probably the best fit for the Bulls among unrestricted free agents, and he?s likely to get a call this summer." Arlington Heights Daily Herald</div> source
ah, i hadn't even considered antonio daniels. he's an ohio guy, went to bowling green, why not come home and play with the King? i think if they got daniels, it would be a great fit, because he's got the ability to play either guard spot, allowing eric snow to run the point now and then. that would give the cavs a great defensive backcourt. daniels seems like a real smart choice, as he won't be very expensive, allowing the cavs to lock up james long term if they so choose (he's prolly deserving of a raise-$4.5 million for 27/7/7 a game is quite a bargain) while also pursuing another F.A or trying to lock up Big Z maybe they could make a run at Stromile Swift as a more athletic center who can run with james, gooden, and hopefully a healthy luke jackson.
I like the idea of signing Jaric, his game would fit here well and his height could cause some mismatches for opposing teams. It seems like he's always injured though. I think we should try to get into the pg-heavy draft. I would love to get a guy like Jarret Jack to develop as our pg of the future. EDIT: There were rumors of the Cavs trying to get the Lithuanian pg Jasikveicus(sp?). He is supposedly Z's best friend. He's a deadly shooter with great passing skills and a lot of passion. I think he would fit well here. He's supposed to be a poor defender though.
I read the rumor about him as well mommy. However, he's already 28 and the Cavs don't have a draft pick this year, so unless he goes undrafted or work out a trade, scratch him off the wish list. Also there are no guarantees Big Z is a Cav next year either. I don't think the Cavs have a shot at Antonio Daniels. As I mentioned above he's already 30. He's also been a regular participant in the post season and I don't think he would want to be part of the rebuilding in Cleveland. The Cavs have just a good a chance at making the playoffs next year, but there will be more attractive offers for him from teams already in the playoffs.

I'm sure the Cavs plan on pursuing him, especially since he's from the Ohio area. However, I don't think he's a good direction to go for the Cavs. This team won't be contending anytime soon, so why invest in a 30 year old point guard, who's been a career back-up player?
I don't mind Dan Dickau personally. I don't think the PG needs to be the 3 point shooter we are looking for, but we need to get a good passing PG who will leave enough $ for us to sign the sharpshooter we need. I think DD will give us the most bang for our buck.
