The Nets won 15 of their last 19 games to earn the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, but they were swept by the Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs.

"I am thrilled to continue my relationship with the Nets organization," Stefanski said. "Rod has been my mentor since I joined the league, and I feel very comfortable with the direction of the team under Bruce Ratner and his ownership group."

Stefanski was promoted to general manager in the summer of 2004, following a one-year stint as the team's senior vice president of basketball operations and four seasons as director of scouting.</div>

I think he deserved a contract extension. From turning the Nets into championship team a couple years ago and having that nice run to the NBA Finals in two consecutive years later than taking a step back with that Martin and Kittles trade but when people started counting the Nets out he brings in Vince Carter and the Nets are suddenly a in the second tier among the teams in the East. In my opinion they are just one good big man away from being a major threat in the East. Not to mention, he did a good job picking up Nenad Krstic which turned out to be a very nice prospect.

Stefanski definitly deserves this. Without him the Nets would not have had the scouting and drafting success that they had before. Hopefully he will continue to make the grand decisions that he has been making.

I think Thorn had more to do with the aquisition of Vince. But Ed was really sought after so great move by the Nets to secure Rod Thorn and now Ed, it gives the fans alot of faith about the direction of the franchise when we know quality people are in the front office.
