<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">When you want to make a move in the NBA, you start by examining teams that need to make a move. Wanting to make a move and needing to make a move are different things. The Nuggets should want to make a move. When the Washington Wizards traded Rip Hamilton to Detroit, they needed to make a move because the guy running their team also wanted to play shooting guard. When the Orlando Magic traded Tracy McGrady to Houston, they needed to make a move because they were awful the previous season. So that's what you're looking for. You're a value investor in the stock market. You're looking for a good company whose stock has been beaten down for any number of reasons. If the right deal comes along, you have to be ready to pull the trigger. Luckily, Carmelo Anthony is your only untouchable, although Marcus Camby is close. Suggestions R Us: ? Steve Francis, Orlando. At 28, Stevie Franchise's stock has never been lower. He went from Houston to Orlando in the McGrady deal, clashed with his new coach and got him fired. The Magic could use less of Stevie's helter-skelter style; the Nuggets could use more of it. ? Stephon Marbury, New York. I know, sounds crazy, and you probably have to give up too much. But the Knicks have to do something. ? Michael Redd, Milwaukee. If he's available in a sign-and-trade, you go after him. ? Bonzi Wells, Memphis. If Mike Fratello stays, Bonzi has to go. He might have J.R. Rider Syndrome, I don't know, but it's worth investigating. ? Mike Miller, Memphis. Pretty much what the doctor ordered at shooting guard. Memphis would rather dump Wells or Jason Williams, or both, but if there's no market for those guys, the Grizzlies still need to make a move. ? Marquis Daniels, Dallas. Had trouble getting on the floor for the Mavericks playing behind Michael Finley, especially once Avery Johnson took over. Not exactly a pure shooter, but very much a full-court athlete. Dallas can't pay everybody. ? Kyle Korver, Philadelphia. A pure shooter whose stock crashed with a woeful performance in the playoffs against Detroit. On a roster that also includes Andre Iguodala, Samuel Dalembert and Willie Green, the Sixers might have too much youth around Allen Iverson, who could use a little help. ? J.R. Smith, New Orleans. The Hornets need to make a move or six. Allan Bristow is a wonderful fellow, but 18-64 doesn't cut it, even if it is better than the 11-71 he managed in Denver. ? Jannero Pargo, Chicago. Small, but he can shoot the three, and the Bulls already have Kirk Hinrich and Chris Duhon. ? Juan Dixon, Washington. Small, but he can shoot the three, and the Wizards already have Gilbert Arenas and Larry Hughes. I know Kiki appreciates the help, so I'll try to keep the suggestions coming. If he's really good, he'll find a Redd or Arenas of his own, an undiscovered gem still lying around after everyone has had a draft pick. Otherwise, he'll need to do more than patch and fill. His backcourt was exposed in the playoffs. It's his job to fix it.</div> Source
I wouldnt want Francis if I was Denver. I say draft a SG and PF/C in the draft, and see what you got. Then sign another SG with experience and can do more than just shoot. *cough* NOT another Wesley Person *cough*
i think that francis will not be traded, buit i think that michael redd would fit well in Denver because he brings a perimiter presence on the offensive side, andif they get lucky he wont resign and they wont have to give up a single player. Watch out for this team next year is they get Redd.
What would it take to bring Francis to Denver? Andre/Nene and a pick? just andre and nene? I think he would fit nicely with their style and the way they play but Orlando might be wanting too much...Francis/Anthony/KMart and Camby would be electric though!! If the Nuggets could sign some key free agents in Korver and/or Daniels, I think it would be a good offseason for them...they need some more backcourt depth, as well as at the wingman positions as well...
lol, J.R. Smith... You don't need Francis, another ball handler, when you have Carmelo and Dre handling that for most of the half court offense. Marquis Daniels would be a nice pick up, but I wouldn't really know who Dallas would want...Nene is not worth it because he is big insurance for K-Mart and Camby. I would only work out some sort of Nene for Daniels trade if I can get Diogu or Simien. I say look at the draft for a SG. With the 20th pick Kennedy Winston, Francisco Garcia, and HS'ers Monta Ellis & CJ Miles (not as an immediate impact as the others) should all be there. If McCants slip to 20, i'd snatch him. I'd retain DeMarr Johnson incase they get a HS SG. If that's the case, then they might want to look at the FA market, but I wouldn't spend a lot of money on a player like Korver who will eventually lose his job to a Garcia/Winston/McCants and so on. Off the SG topic, but they might want to think of trading for an early 2nd rounder to draft a PG like Ewing or Gilchrist. Say they draft Garcia, with their 20th, and pick up Diogu with their 22nd pick, and trade Nene for Daniels in a deal then you would have a roster like this during some point in the off-season: PG: Andre Miller/Earl Boykins/Daniel Ewing SG: Marquis Daniels/Francisco Garcia/DeMarr Johnson SF: Carmelo Anthony/DeMarr Johnson/Buckner? PF: Kenyon Martin/Ike Diogu/ -C: Marcus Camby/FA and/or Francisco Elson
You guys don't need Francis. For that matter, he's not exactly what you need, and you might have to give up more than what is necessary to get him. You need a pure outside shooter. Francis is anything but. He's a slasher with a decent jumper and good athleticism. The Nugs don't need that. They need a shooter. That's why I think it's likely they'll take a look at Rashad McCants come pick #20 or #22 in the draft. He may be undersized and might have a bad attitude, but he's still a great player. He's a phenomenal athlete and a great shooter. He may not have the height, but look at what Ben Gordon did this past year and I'm pretty sure you can look past his 6'3" frame. Concerning his attitude, I'm pretty sure with a coach like George Karl, that could be fixed.
