do any other people out there feel as if there's too much flopping in the NBA? like when the offensive player barely touches the defender, and the defender does a nice acting job and flops. I think it really slows the game down, one thing I'd like to see next year is that the refs should stop calling those "touchy floppy" charge calls. I know its easier said than done, but its one thing I'd like to see.
Amen. Flopping in the NBA has become commonplace and it's ridiculous. It's apparant in the Sonics/Spurs series especially with Manu Ginobili. No matter how little the contact, a dramatic flop is in order with this guy. In my mind, flopping is a cheap excuse for playing physical and guys like Ginobili shouldn't be praised for their "toughness" when they are just manipulating the system.
Manu Ginobili just then. Absolutely ridiculous, makes Reggie Evans and Danny Fortson look like their feet are nailed to the floor.
I agree... I think a lot of players grow their hair long to help in dramatasizing their flopping ability. Dirk Flopwitzki was a good example when he had long hair.. even though he is still good at flopping with short hair and holding his head like someone hit it all the time.
Flopping is a way to sell a call to the refs. A charge is a charge, and should be called, or else it might as well be rugby out there. I agree that nothing is more annoying than when it ISN'T a charge, and a player gets the call because of how well he sold it. However, if a player is guilty of an offensive foul, then I don't care if the defender flops or not, the ref has to blow the whistle. If you think NBA flopping is bad, you should catch a "futbol" game. Soccer players take "flopping" to Oscar-worthy levels.
Yeah flopping in todays game is bad. Like already said, you see a ton of it from Manu Ginobili and it really makes me mad because he gets calls by doing it. That rookie Damien Wilkins got a rebound and all he did was turn his triple threat position, of course Manu is dead on him so when Wilkins did the triple threat turn Ginobilil went flying like a car hit him.
And people act like AI doesn't hit the floor so many times on his own design. Manu knows how to play smart and get the calls. What people like Fortson and Evans do is just pathetic, and it's so blatant, they will never get the calls, so why even bother?
Well, I don't think AI hits the deck willingly... it's a different situation here.. AI is barely 6 feet tall and he's going up against 7footers that are at least 100-150lbs heavier than him..
Flopping sucks. You see it all the time in the NBA now. And the refs suck for falling for it all the time. Some players like Ginobli and Reggie Miller flop constantly. If another player gets anywhere remotly close to them they fall to the floor like a truck ran them over. Another thing that ticks me off is when players that are defending Shaq' in the low post flop when Shaq' starts to make his move. They act like he just shoves them. It changes the game completly.

Maybe the refs should start handing out technicals to the floppers in the league to send a message. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting magnetik:</div><div class="quote_post">I agree... what really ticks me off is when a player plays for the charge and NOT the block or stop... if you're playing solid D and someone charges into you and you flop a little to make sure you get the refs attn, go for it, all the power to you. I hate it when players play for the charge, instead of making a play on the ball, they stand there and take the "charge" aka flop with just a little contact. That's not defense, that's pathetic excuse for defense, and its pathetic entertainment, because, after all, NBA is entertainment. I just think taking away alot of the flopping/charge calls would make the players that are accustomed to flopping to play real defense, I mean, who wouldn't rather see a defensive player go up for a block rather than stand still and trying to get an offense foul.
The worst flops in my opinion are the ones with no contact. When a player gets a rebound and brings it down they tend to swing their elbows. So the defender sees this and pretends to get hit in the face when an elbow goes near their face.
^^ I double agree 100%, cuz of yao ming, he always tries to take the charge and he gets called for blocking. its not funny

I like the technical foul idea. Nash, Reggie, Manu Ginobli, Dirk, and Quentin Richardson are some of the top floppers in the league and need to be stopped. (though Nash can be given some slack because of his small stature) Its disgusting to watch Quentin trying to defend fast breaks by flopping, he usually one of the most athletic guys on the floor. Dirk and Manu seem to be the best people at acting to get hit in the face; they should be in the WWE for christs sake. Reggie seems to hurt his team alot by dropping the ball on purpose while trying to get a call, I'm watching the Detroit-Indy series and he just did it twice in a row and Detroit went from down 6 to down 2 and gaining momentum.
Yeah adding some to the names mentioned above, Divac and Bowen make me want to puke. Divac is a huge guy but he falls when someone pushes him with a pinky. Bowen is always like "What did I do??????????????????"
