This is mostly about NY Knicks, I just bolded the part that's of importance. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Phil of waiting As Jax plays field, Herb digs in BY FRANK ISOLA DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Herb Williams would be first to point out that Knicks already have right man for coaching job. Isiah Thomas' search for a coach has hit a lull, which is another way of saying that the Knicks' worst fear - waiting around while Phil Jackson uses them as leverage - has come to fruition. Herb Williams remains the leading candidate because Jackson, who claimed for years that coaching the Knicks was his professional destiny, does not want to tarnish his legacy by trying to teach Stephon Marbury the triangle offense. And even if Jackson did come to the Knicks, the first thing he would do is attempt to dismantle the roster Thomas put together. Few NBA executives believe that a Jackson-Thomas celebrity marriage would last. Fortunately for Thomas, Jackson appears inclined to sit out one more season and angle for a job currently held by a Van Gundy, Jeff or Stan. Jackson is already floating trial balloons through the media that he is the perfect coach for Yao Ming. Larry Brown, who has a history with reclamation projects and is Thomas' first choice, appears to be leaning toward taking a year off and has no doubt informed Thomas as much through an intermediary. There is a strong possibility that if Brown rests for one year and gets his health in order he would return for the 2006-07 season. The only outsider standing in Williams' way is P.J. Carlesimo, the Spurs' assistant who has a career 183-222 record as coach of the Blazers and Warriors. Carlesimo comes highly recommended by Thomas' confidante Chuck Daly and Carlesimo already has a strong bond with James Dolan: they shared a hatred for Latrell Sprewell. Thomas, however, long has admired Sprewell and may be concerned over how Carlesimo handles Thomas' three prized possessions: Marbury, Jamal Crawford and Trevor Ariza. Thomas has been conspicuously silent in the past 10 days, save for taking a trip to Los Angeles and not meeting with Jackson. The last time he was quoted about the Knicks' job, Thomas actually entertained the notion that a woman could be coaching an NBA team within five years. Those mixed signals make it harder to believe that the Knicks' so-called search is nothing more than "a public relations campaign," as one Eastern Conference executive called it. Three weeks ago, Thomas called Williams the "front-runner," and then spent the next 10 days touring the country looking for someone better. If Thomas elects to bring back Williams, it will be interesting to see if Thomas allows him to hire his own coaching staff. Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens brought in just one of his own guys, Dick Helm, and Thomas fired him the day after the Knicks lost their home opener. The Knicks would save a small fortune if Jackson is not the choice, but Thomas would have to give Williams, who has a year left on his contract, a two- or three-year extension just to show that he is the right person for the job. </div> Your thoughts?
With Yao's passing ability and skill set, I think he would floursh in the Triangle system. Jordan won championships in it, and Kobe complained but did okay in it. I wonder how McGrady would take to the Triangle?
Well coming from New York and without directly quoting Phil Jackson, I'm inclined to believe this story is made up. It's easy to put PJax with the Heat and the Rockets because they both have players who would fit well in the triangle. There is no reason to believe either Van Gundy will be gone next year. They are both putting a winning team on the floor and both have the support of their GMs.

I think his power is going to his head. IMO! JT
My Wishlist: -Jeff Van Gundy offers to step down as Head Coach. -Phil Jackson is hired -Phil Jackson asks Jeff to be his assistant Coach -Jeff accepts -Phil coaches the offense, Jeff coaches the defense -Rockets become best Team in the NBA -Rockets Win 5 NBA Titles In A Row Dreaming is fun. But honestly I dont want Jeff to lose his job. He's a great Coach and I feel he deserves a title with the Rockets. But if Jeff is does lose his job......Bring in Phil.
I don't know why the media keeps bringing up Phil Jackson and Houston. Its so annoying. Jeff Van Gundy has been doing a great job coaching this bunch- I mean even McGrady said that he was the best coach he has had. Van Gundy has taught these guys so many things- I doubt Yao would be where he is without him. Every year Van Gundy has coached, Houston improved its record. Of course, there's also that little thing called Yao and McGrady, but nonetheless he did a good job with Francis, Mobley, and Yao. He's a great defensive coach, and once gets a better offensive strategy, our team would be one to beat.
I agree with Aznxballer...JVG has improved this team immensely and it is clear that he is the man who can run this team...our defense has been ranked in top 3 for the past 2 years...and our offense grew in leaps and bounds last season...in fact, the Rockets feel so satisfied with him that they signed him to a 1-year contract extension today that will put him as Rockets head coach through the 07-08 season...IMO, JVG is a better coach for this team than Phil would be...Phil emphasizes a passing game around the big man...this team needs TMac as the centerpiece, and the pick and roll needs to be the primary play, which it is...we're fine as we are now, from a coaching and management standpoint, and we're a solid PF and some backcourt depth away from being a top 4 in the West...
JVG just signed an extra year extension which keeps him till 2008 so we can never get phil jackson since he'll turn 80 by then and wont be in good condition to coach. We just need a PG like kidd, or nash, or cassell..just that it's quite impossible since they're so rare.

People make it seem so simple like trading for kg with us. We got one thing that I am hoping for which is the collective bargaining agreement. We need this to work no matter what. it would be devestating to go on strike again like in 99.
What's all the flurry about Phil Jackson coming in to implement the triangle offense? Van Gundy has taken this team to a 50 win season and the team respects him. What's good about Jackson? I doubt he alone could make the Hawks a winning team. He IMO just latched onto talent in his winning seasons. First Jordan and Pippen, then Shaq and Kobe. If he truly was a great coach, then why didn't the Lakers win last year? The last thing I'd like to see is Jackson gets hated by McGrady then resigns and writes a book blasting TMac and kissing Yao's behind. What way to alienate the team's two stars.
Well the Rockets just extended Van Gundy to 2007/08 so the Phil Jackson rumor should be officially dead.
