<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Ben Wallace doesn't need a lot of motivation to play -- and play well. Schedule a game, give him a jersey and an opponent, tape up his ankles and he's ready to go. So it's hard to tell whether Jermaine O'Neal's comments in a New York newspaper last weekend got him fired up. Peter Vecsey's column in the New York Post quoted O'Neal as saying Wallace wasn't "that good defensively one-on-one." Wallace is the NBA defensive player of the year and has won the award three times in four years. "At this point in my career I don't need a lot of motivation," Wallace said Wednesday. "I just come out and play basketball." Asked if the comments irked him, Wallace replied: "Some people just say the darnedest things." He drew a laugh from reporters. O'Neal isn't laughing. He's averaging 15.2 points and shooting 34.5% from the field in the second-round playoff series against the Pistons. In the regular season, O'Neal averaged 24.3 points and shot 45.2%. Wallace was named to the All-NBA third team on Wednesday.</div> Source
Jermaine should be the last one talking, he is struggling way to much to be trash talking. Once he starts proving that Big Ben isn't a good one-on-one defender then he should start talking stuff.

Jermaine O'Neal shot better in the Pistons series than in the Celtics. Jermaine O'Neal was the reason they struggled to win (except in game 6 which was his best performance). The guy takes too many FGAs and shoots a terrible %. When you take him out of the offense the ball gets moved around a lot more and the Pacers have an easier time scoring. Anyways, he needs to quit talking and let his game do the talking for him.
hold on a sec...the article said ben is the defensive player of the year and then it goes on to say that he was named to the all nba defensive 3rd team. this doesnt make sense to me. shouldnt he be on the all nba 1st team?

To be fair to JO he played hurt and will likely need surgery on his shoulder in the off-season. So his performance wasn't anywhere near as good as It normally would be. Proof of that was in the Boston series. A heathly Jermaine would of dominated Boston. The fact he struggled shows alot about how much he has been hurting. That said, the Pistons defense has always given him problems. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting bulldawg03:</div><div class="quote_post">hold on a sec...the article said ben is the defensive player of the year and then it goes on to say that he was named to the all nba defensive 3rd team. this doesnt make sense to me. shouldnt he be on the all nba 1st team?</div> No, the article said he was named to the all NBA first 3rd team not defensive. Has nothing to do with the DPOY award.
