<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Former South Gwinnett High star Louis Williams has indicated for the first time that he intends to keep his name in the NBA draft --- even if he isn't a first-round pick.

But only if that means staying at home and playing for the Hawks, who hold the first pick in the second round of the June 28 draft.

"I'm not really looking at [being selected in] the second round," Williams said Friday afternoon, "but that would be an ideal situation if it came to that. That's really the best of a worst-case scenario."

Williams will have a chance to strengthen his case starting next week with workouts scheduled with the Memphis Grizzlies Tuesday and the Detroit Pistons on May 31.

He'll be one of three point guards in Memphis next week, joining good friend Jarrett Jack of Georgia Tech and Maryland's John Gilchrist.

Williams will conduct a solo workout for the Pistons.

"In the NBA," he said, "a job is a job, no matter where you go."

Williams said there are no tentative plans to work out for the Hawks, although team officials did call Comets coach Roger Fleetwood earlier this spring to request four game tapes of Williams.

Williams is a close friend of Hawks rookie Josh Smith, a former McEachern star. </div>

I'd be very happy if the hawks picked up Louis Williams with their second rounder, from what I've read about him he seems to have potential and a huge upside, the only thing thats negative about him is he's very raw. I dont mind having a project in Atlanta thats a hometown guy named Louis Williams.

I can see the Hawks gambling on him with their 2nd Round pick. He's a local product, which should increase some fan numbers. He can learn how to play PG on the team, since they will be rebuilding for a few more years. Louis Williams has no problem scoring, and if the Hawks do end up trading Harrington, Louis could become a 2nd option behind his friend, Josh Smith.

However, with 108 players declaring for this year's draft, a better player could slip to the Hawks in RND 2.

Considering this kid is one of the best high school guards in the nation, this would be a great pick for the Hawks in the second round. He averaged 37 points per game in college, and is already being compared to a younger Allen Iverson. If I were the Hawks, I'd definitely take a gamble on this kid.
