Quote:

Compensating C-USA key to '04-05 moves Conference commissioners will make one last attempt this weekend to speed up the alignment shift by a number of schools. The goal is to make the movement in and out of seven conferences coincide with ACC expansion next season. But to make it happen in time for the 2004-05 season, commissioners will need to take a collection from their members to compensate Conference USA upwards of $10 million. Commissioners meeting at the NCAA Convention in Nashville will discuss a proposal by C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky that would allow current C-USA teams to leave for the Big East in time for the upcoming season. Such a move would open the way for universal realignment within the ACC, Big East, C-USA, WAC, A-10, WAC and Sun Belt. Link There are TONS of moves goin' down next few college seasons...check it.. A look at the teams who'll change conferences by the 2005-06 season: To ACC in 2004-05 Miami (Big East) Virginia Tech (Big East) To ACC in 2005-06 Boston College (Big East) To Big East in 2005-06 Cincinnati (C-USA) Louisville (C-USA) Marquette (C-USA) DePaul (C-USA) South Florida (C-USA) To Conference USA in 2005-06 SMU (WAC) Tulsa (WAC) Rice (WAC) To Atlantic 10 in 2005-06 Charlotte (C-USA) Saint Louis (C-USA) To WAC in 2005-06 Utah State (Big West/Sun Belt football) New Mexico State (Sun Belt) T0 MAC in 2005-06 Central Florida (Atlantic Sun) Other possible moves by teams in 2005-06: TCU (C-USA) to MWC Boise State (WAC) to MWC Louisiana Tech (WAC) or Temple (A-10) to C-USA North Texas (Sun Belt) to C-USA or WAC Idaho (Big West/Sun Belt football) to WAC This shift is almost a killer for C-Usa they lose their big three in Cincy,Louisville & Marquette and really gain nothing in return. From a basketball standpoint the ACC gains nothing but cannon fodder in BC,Miami and VT. The Big East is the real winner from the basketball perspective. Cincy,Louisville & Marquette along with Syracuse,UConn,Georgetown,St.Johns and Notre Dame make it a pretty intriguing conference for hoops fans.... so after the big Conference shift we'll have conferences that look like this. ACC Duke North Carolina NC State FSU Georgia Tech Wake Forrest Virginia Maryland Clemson Boston College Miami Virginia Tech Big East Cincy Louisville Marquette DePaul South Florida Pitt UConn Syracuse Notre Dame Georgetown Providence Seton Hall Villanova St.Johns Rutgers C-USA SMU Tulsa Rice Central Florida Marshall Charlotte St.Louis UAB Memphis East Carolina Southern Miss Tulane Houston TCU
..from a basketball perspective it looks to me like the balance of power in NCAA basketball will shift to the Big East when all the moves are complete in '05-'06.
