right now, if you check out the printable roster on heat.com, these are the players it shows: joel anthony * earl barron (FA) daequan cook * michael doleac udonis haslem eddie jones (FA) alonzo mourning shaquille o'neal smush parker gary payton (FA) james posey (FA) chris quinn jeremy richardson * wayne simien marcus slaughter * dwyane wade antoine walker jason williams dorell wright thats 20 guys. who do you think should be cut and who should make the regular season roster? also, put into account that payton is likely retiring and all of the free agents that could possibly leave. (FA) = free agent * = rookie (i think one or two of the guys may not be rookies, but i cant remember who. anyone know?)
Anthony was just brought in for their Summer League and Preseason squads and likely won't make the final roster. Likewise, Earl Barron, James Posey, Eddie Jones, and Gary Payton are all likely goners. They're all free agents who aren't likely to return. That gives the Heat a depth chart of - PG - Smush Parker / Jason Williams SG - Dwyane Wade / Daequan Cook / Chris Quinn SF - Dorell Wright / Marcus Slaughter / Jeremy Richardson PF - Udonis Haslem / Antoine Walker / Wayne Simien C - Shaquille O'Neal / Alonzo Mourning / Michael Doleac That gives them 14 out of a possible 15 players.
i agree entirely with that depth chart, except for that i say williams will still be starting, at least in the early parts of the season. smush may become the starter later, but i say they try to get a feel for how he does alongside wade and shaq when he comes off the bench before just throwing him out there and hoping for the best.
Jason Williams (when healthy) > Smush PG - Jason Williams / Smush Parker SG - Dwyane Wade / Daequan Cook SF - Dorell Wright / PF - Udonis Haslem / Wayne Simien C - Shaquille O'Neal / Alonzo Mourning These are the only relevant players on the roster. I really hope to see Simien get some action this season, rather than Antoine Walker. I doubt that happens but who knows. We suck. We need a SF, god help us even more if Walker is our backup SF. I would like to go after Jarvis Hayes with a one year deal, but I'm not sure how likely that is.
