MVP - LeBron - just look at how bad the Cavs were without him. Rookie of the year - Durant Sixth Man of the Year - Ginobili Coach of the Year - Nate McMillan Most Improved Player - Dwight Howard (nearly MVP)
MVP: Dwight Howard 23/15, are you serious? Not to mention, Orlando - though struggling recently - is a much improved basketball team. Howard has taken the next step and is rapidly becoming the most dominant big man in the NBA. Rookie of the Year: Kevin Durant Bonafide scorer, will win this award based on his scoring average and hype regardless of how well Al Horford does anyway. I wouldn't complain if either won it. Defensive Player of the Year: Kevin Garnett Kevin Garnett has changed everything. Tom Thibodeau deserves a lot of credit for getting this team to buy into his schemes, but Garnett is anchoring the #1 defense in the NBA. If he doesn't win this award, it's absolute blasphemy. Sixth man of the Year: Manu Ginobili He has been superb this year, and carried San Antonio when Duncan was out. He's an All-Star ballplayer and could easily demand 35 minutes a night and the starting job, but does whatever the team asks of him. We need more players like that in the NBA. Granted, Manu's flopping is out of hand, but that shouldn't take this award away from him. Most Improved Player: Chris Kaman Kaman has this locked up. I called a double-double season from Kaman this summer, but no way did I expect 19/14 or whatever he's putting up. He's one hell of a player, and has evolved from an above average center with injury problems to a top 5 center in the league. Coach of the Year: Nate McMillan No explanation really needed. He has gotten his young core to buy into his system, which is completely team-oriented. It's hard to get young players to settle into roles while they are trying to make a name for themselves, but he has done it. Part of that is the fact that the team is full of good guys who are about the name on the front rather than the back, of course, but nobody expected this kind of play or poise from the Blazers this season. You've got to tip your hat to Nate McMillan. I don't care how many wins my Celtics rack up, if this Blazers team makes the playoffs, Nate deserves this award without question.
MVP - Steve Nash He's gone unnoticed this year, but Nash is putting up a career high in assists with 12.3. He's also shooting over 50% from the field, 45% from 3 point land, and 90% from the charity stripe. Above all Phoenix is horrendous when he's not on the court. Suns are currently the top team in the elite Western Conference. Rookie of the year - Kevin Durant It's a closer race than I expected, but Durant is the best rookie so far. I'd like to see him increase his rebounding average and obviously improve on his 40% FG%. Defensive player of the year - Marcus Camby Kevin Garnett is a close runner-up, but Camby has been outstanding this year. Leads the league in BPG, and second only to Dwight Howard in RPG. Sixth man of the year - Manu Ginobili He's more of a starter, but Gino by a landslide. Although Monta Ellis is coming on strong lately. Most Improved Player - Andrew Bynum He's personified this afford with a strong commitment to improving over the summer. Coach of the Year - Greg Popovich When you look at all the injuries Pop has juggled with it's pretty impressive to see the Spurs still winning 70% of their games.

MVP - Kevin Garnett - He's having a phenomenal individual season, scoring 117.5 points per 100 possessions and allowing only 89.6. This season will be forgotten by the layman, but to statisticians this will go down as one of the great individual seasons of all time. HM: Chris Paul - Who is having an Isiah Thomas level season and has already surpassed Steve Nash at 22 years old in my opinion. This season would get cp3 to be MVP deserving in many seasons. Rookie of the year - Al Horford HM: Kevin Durant - but I can't bear giving it to somebody who's been a below average player this year Sixth Man of the Year - Manu Ginobili HM: Ben Gordon - He's only come off the bench a few games, but he's been averaging like 29 ppg when he comes off the bench Coach of the Year - Doc Rivers - because it always goes to the guy who coaches a 65+ win team HM: Phil Jackson - For the Lakers' resurgence Most Improved Player - Chris Kaman - He turned into an ugly Marcus Camby overnight HM: Dwight Howard, Chris Paul - Because they went from marginal top 20 and top 25 players respectively to top 3 players.
