Last night against the Clippers, our big 3 of guards were 13/38 (35%), 10 turnovers and 5 assists. At home. This is basically a recurring theme with them. Major personnel changes need to be made.
Not only a GM, but one PA will listen to and Vulcan won't stab in the back and leave for dead when they do good things. I also think we need substantially better talent evaluators in the organization.
I actually think they do a decent job. Babbitt seems to suck ass, but lights up everything in the D league. He was just picked too high. Williams is good, and I still think with the right coach, Nolan Smith could get some confidence and be a decent PG. Not bad for a 20 something pick.
Both Babbitt and Bayless were dead on arrival and while they have some NBA skills they were bottom first or upper second round picks- and I think that was obvious. We've left too many picks in Europe and how the hell do we end up with Failton & Crawful playing pivotal roles on this team when their career stats are below NBA average? NOt that we haven't made some good choices, but I think overall it's been sub par talent evaluating.
Bayless? I know stats can be misleading, but Bayless' career per 36 minute stats are 16/5. Shoots .407 from the field, .333 from 3pt and shoots .816 from FT. 5.5 FTA per game as well. I don't know about you, but that sounds like a decent starting PG Conversely, Russell Westbrook, who a lot of people seem to think is an elite player in the league, or close to it, has career averages of 19/7. Shoots .427 from the field, .247 from 3pt and .815 from FT. 5.2 FTA per game as well. Westbrook also averages more TO per game. Westbrook is obviously the better player, but it's not by a ton
I think one of the biggest issues with the Blazers over the past several seasons is that the coach was in place before the GM. You have to get a GM in here and let him choose his guy. If his guy is Nate however, he is the wrong choice because he is a yes man
Pattty wants to come: @Patty_Mills need a point guard to the Rose Garden ASAP” --> That's where I wanna be mate. I really wanna help my Bala's out
How bout jlprk for GM and Mediocre Man for head coach!? somebody get PA on the line quick and tell him we got the Championship staff ready to take over.
Finally someone notices my many abilities! My first move is to hire Bob Whitsitt as assistant. My second move is to hand him the office key and move to Hawaii. My third move is to check the mailbox for my paycheck from Paul.
Your kidding right? There is not one NBA coach, GM or analyst (even in TOR) would agree with you that these two players are close in talent factor.... and Buchanan has done a crappy job, Nolan Smith has done little to show he is an NBA caliber player...same with Babbitt and Johnson, Williams MIGHT be a decent NBA player....This is what happens when you do not have a GM who can look through a scout's report and know what is wrong\bs and what is right....Buchanan is not a great talent evaluator IMO...and when he is the leading voice and then you get guys like Kolde\Allen pulling the trigger...this is what you get...two years of utter draft failure.... Add to that POR pulling the chute (Claver) on the draft the year before and you have 3 straight years of ZERO talent infusion via the draft...
ok. I think Bayless is a darn good player. I think Westbrook is better, but I also think Bayless is better than any guard we have on our roster
There are plenty of upgrades available around the league, but we haven't shown the willingness to acquire them. Ramon Sessions continues to play well in CLE and can be had for cheap.
