    Obviously it's our liberal society..

Actually, on a serious note, it's a pretty sad state of things. Something has to be psychologically wrong with this kid.

I don't think I've ever heard a story like this before..... shoots his whole family and then calls the police and gives himself up. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Although I can't provide a link, I've heard of things like this before. Someone shoots family and turns himself/herself in. Probably heard voices, or whatever.

Why would someone give a 14 year old a gun for a birthday present?

I think plenty of people give their kids guns for presents. I think the legal age for hunting is 12? I might be wrong on that. When I was that age I already owned a .22, a 30/30 leverage action, and a semi-auto .306. I had already been hunting for three years. It's not uncommon for many kids to begin shooting at an early age. IMO it's better to introduce your kids to guns at a young age (even if they're not shooting) and teach them about proper safety.

    First, another unspeakable tragedy.

Second, I am personally opposed to children owning guns. The parents can own then and take the kids hunting or out shooting... buy to buy a kid a gun has never sat right with me.

Third, I do hope we find out why. I have a couple of guesses, but will wait until we know.

Oh, well if you put it that way, yeah... I agree. I don't think kids should have access to guns whenever they feel like it. They can "own them" but I don't see any reason for a 14 year old kid to have a gun that's just sitting in their room. Of course, my dad never locked our guns up, but he never had a reason to. The guns just stayed put away until we wanted to go shooting or hunting. There was no reason to ever have them out. Of course, that's a far cry from when my grandpa was a little kid in Portland. He used to shoot squirrels pretty much anywhere in the Portland city limits that I desired from a very young age. Times change...

Funny, when my grandfather was a kid, he could do the same. He also wouldn't see any blacks, asians, indians, or openly catholic or gay people either. Of course, he was a young man in the 20's and 30's.

Wait...you desired squirrels when you were young!? you fucking pervo.
