Read the artcile in the chronicle this morning. the A's looked horrible,The Raiders were decent,The 49ers were crappy, and the Warriors were just the Warriors To think you guys traded away Mchale and Parrish..That was a big time mistake Thankfully were not in 1979 anymore, and hopefully we can look back on this as just a blunder in the eye of Bay Area sports
We have truely been blessed and spoiled here in the bay area the past couple of years. Before last season, the Raiders and Niners were always locked in as a playoff team. The A's and Giants have both been in the playoffs for a few years now, the Giants making all the way to the Series. The Sharks almost made it to the Stanely Cup. The Sabercats won the Arena Bowl. Now its the Warriors turn.

"But there were a lot of other issues involved including Robert's (pending) free agency. And you look at Joe Barry's numbers, they were not that bad. He just never seemed to connect with the community here.'' </div> Ok, now I feel better about it.
In A year in which Joe Montana and Dwight Clark were drafted, Bill Walsh was hired, and the team competed admirablely (6 of their loses were by a touchdown or less), could hardly be called a disaster retrospectively. Especially compared to the three previous seasons ( Plunkett, Monte Clark, The OJ trade) which were totally devoid of hope. In August 1979, the A's saw Rickey Henderson make his debut. The Giants stunk in '78 and '80 and wouldn't get better for a while. As for the Warriors, that trade is probably the worst trade in Basketball history (at least in the bottom five), and was a harbinger for things to come. It was not as mindless as it's made out to be. Selfish? Definitely. Ultimately it was Franklin Meullis' last gasp effort at trying to hang on to the team that he loved so much. He simply couldn't pay Parrish and a top three pick (he couldn't pay Rick Barry the year before), and eventually sold the team

Say what you want about Rickey, but he's the best leadoff hitter of all time, and arguably top ten, all-time.
