Thought I share some stuff I heard over the weekend. 1. Favre took snaps obviously at QB. He spent most of his time with Mike McCarthy. McCarthy said he looked good. Favre will miss the next mini camp but will be here for the 12 day mini camp in June. Aaron Rodgers was one of the brightest spots at this mini camp. He's up to 228 pounds and has improved accuracy and has a better deep ball. Jago and McCarthy were impressed. They also said Rodgers because he's been in Green Bay working out and working with the new coaches all off season, has a better understanding for the offense right now then Favre. I like the fact he worked out everyday in Green Bay. I hope Rodgers pans out. I still worry though. 2. At running back Gado worked with the first team and looked good. Green won't be ready until the end of Training Camp to start practicing and Davenport won't be ready until the start of training camp probably. Green is the front runner to start but Gado will get probably half the carries. Depth is a major concern here yet. 3. Greg Jennings was the best WR on the field outside of Driver. He adjust to the games speed great. Obviously they weren't in pads but if this is an indication of what is to come, look for Jennings to start opposite of Driver opening day. Fergy did ok but didn't do anything spectacular. Gardner had one big day and was quite the rest. Boerigter looked rusty and could be a one of the big names you hear come roster cut down in August. McCarthy said at least 5 guys will compete for the 2,3, and 4 spots. 4. O-line looked pretty solid but still needs to adjust to the new scheme. Wells was good at center and is all but a lock to start there. Colledge is the front runner for Left guard. Probably will start there as well. Coaches really liked him. Clifton didn't practice because of surgery. Tauscher is our RT. Question is at RG. Junius Coston is the front runner to start. He's the 2nd year pro and was a 5th round pick last year. He's your typical zone scheme guard. Barry and Whittaker are overweight. Barry will need to lose 20 pounds. If he is he could end up winning the starting guard spot. He was supposed to be at about 320 or 315 by this mini camp and start at RG but he weighed in at 342. Whittaker could be another name you hear go come roster cut down. In all likely hood he's going to be the 3rd string LT if he does stay on. Note: Green Bay worked out Verba and may sign him to compete for a starting job at one of the guards. My guess is right guard. 5. Defensive line has a nice rotation. Pickett looked great as he rotated with Colin Cole, Cullen Jenkins, and Corey Williams at DT. Kendrick Clancy is a big guy and is looking to break the rotation. Kenny Peterson worked some as well. Donnell Washington was overweight. Didn?t' look like he did anything this off season and is in MM's dog house. Washington is said to be all but gone and will take a miracle for him to make the team. 6. LB's was a great spot to see. AJ Hawk is the starter at weak side LB. Barnett lined up in the middle and Ben Taylor at strong side. Hodge is the backup to Barnett. Roy Manning will compete with Taylor for the strong side spot. Tracy White will backup Hawk. There's a good chance Poppinga if he could get healthy could make a run at Taylor and Manning for the strong side spot but the speculation is he may start the season on the physically unable to perform list keeping him out for the first 6 weeks of the season. Can?t really tell you much. LB?s really come clear with pads on. 7. Perhaps the greatest thing in the world was no Ahmad Carroll in the starting lineup. Woodson looked great and was every bit of what the Pack thought he was worth. His speed is good. He's good in coverage. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. Carroll worked as the nickel back. Roman and Collins at safeties though there wasn't much said about Collins. Manuel was out with an injury sustained in the Super Bowl. Manuel is said to be the starter at SS though ahead of Roman. Mike Hawkins added weight and looked decent. Hawkins could push Carroll and he could be the dime back if we even play a dime defense this year. Blackmon looked pretty good as well. Secondary is young and deep from the looks of it. 8. Special Teams looked like they always do. No kickers kicked so nothing there. Sander was inconsistent but when he was on was great. This new guy will push him (errr can't remember his name) Blackmon, Cory Rodgers, Woodson, and Jennings fielded punts. Plan is for Rodgers to contribute in the return game. Overall Mike McCarthy is being raved about now. A lot of critics about him liked what they saw. He's a hard nose coach and when he speaks the players listen. He's not soft like Sherman was. Jago did a lot of coaching and there wasn't anything said on Bob Sanders. Overall though the speculation is this new staff works well together and have the makings of a good coaching staff. Keyword "makings" Players do seem to like McCarthy though. Woodson and Pickett said good things.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (hoodie7)</div><div class='quotemain'>who was the receiver that had the neck injury last year for the pack?</div> Terrance Murphey. He was released because he wants to play but no doctor has said he can play. So he pretty much has to retire.
He may of had some promise too, he made some amazing plays at Texas A&M, I hope he got a nice injury settlement.
