This really should be a good game. It's in Indiana and I think the Hoosiers can really give UConn a run for their money. I'm taking UConn 81-78 though as finally a true breakout game from Rudy Gay.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- Rudy Gay quieted a hostile crowd by scoring 19 points and No. 1 Connecticut beat No. 22 Indiana 86-80 on Saturday, the Huskies' ninth straight win.

Josh Boone added 16 points and Hilton Armstrong had 14 for the Huskies (20-1) who are 7-0 this season against ranked teams.

Connecticut's combination of power and finesse was too much for the Hoosiers (13-6) to overcome. UConn shot 54.2 percent from the field and had a 45-35 rebounding advantage that was even larger until the final minutes.

Marshall Strickland led Indiana with 18 points but it wasn't enough to avert a second loss this season to a No. 1 team. It marked the second time in school history Indiana played two top-ranked teams in the regular season. The Hoosiers, who lost 75-67 to then-No. 1 Duke on Nov. 30, are 1-5 all-time against No. 1 teams in Bloomington.

Marco Killingsworth added 15 points and Roderick Wilmont had 14 for Indiana.

The Hoosiers could not take advantage of some uncharacteristic miscues by Connecticut. The Huskies were plagued by turnovers, allowed Indiana to rally twice from double-digit deficits and struggled to put away the Hoosiers until the final minutes.

At times, UConn even looked erratic. Indiana used a spate of early turnovers to ignite a 12-4 run midway through the first half that gave them a 29-20 lead.

Three minutes later, though, Killingsworth went to the bench with his second foul. UConn took advantage of his absence to close the half on a 19-5 run that made it 41-36. The lead could have been even larger, but the officials reversed Denham Brown's 3-pointer at the buzzer, using replay to determine the shot wasn't off in time.

The run didn't end there. After Killingsworth opened the second half with two free throws, UConn scored 12 straight points to build a 53-38 lead with 17:26 left. They led by as much as 63-43 and appeared to be coasting.

But the Hoosiers rallied twice. They scored seven straight points to trim the lead to 13, then got within 73-66 when Earl Calloway drove in for a layup with 7:48 left. Indiana had a chance to get closer but freshman Ben Allen missed a wide open 3 from the top of the key.

That was all the Huskies needed. They countered with a 12-2 run that gave them an 85-68 lead.</div>

Indiana looked helpless out there when Killingsworth was out with foul trouble. There's nothing embarrassing about losing to UConn but I think IU is still reeling and not playing great ball.

The reason why Indiana looked helpless when Killingsworth got into foul trouble was because they are helpless when Killingsworth gets into foul trouble. Their whole offense revolves around Killingsworth getting the ball inside and then the rest of their offense feeds off the advantage of having a dominate big man in there. Which is why it hurt Indiana so much when DJ White got hurt. If they had White in there he can take some of the load off of Killingsworth when he gets in foul troulbe or tired so that Indiana can stay in the game when Killingsworth is on the bench.
