200 reasons why Ledley is still the King of Tottenham

The injury-plagued Spurs captain has been in great form recently and a start against Aston Villa on Monday will highlight the memorable time he has spent at the club.

Ledley King will make his 200th appearance for Tottenham Hotspur against tough opponents Aston Villa on Monday.

King, now 27, has been something of a rock in the Spurs defence this season, producing a recent run of form despite having been sidelined on many occasions with a long-standing knee injury.

In February, his successful captaincy led Tottenham to a glorious Carling Cup win against Chelsea at Wembley. An iconic figure, the 6ft 2in Londoner has always been a fans' favourite at White Hart Lane.

King is widely known for the fastest goal in Premier League history, when he netted after a mere 10 seconds at Bradford City in December 2000. It's a record that stands to this day and was scored during George Graham's tenure as Spurs manager.

King originally made an impact in the central-midfield role, turning professional in 1998 before making his mark in the heart of the Tottenham defence while Glenn Hoddle was in charge.

Spurs have reiterated the importance of a win against Villa, who will themselves be looking to take all three points. Juande Ramos's men have already lost two out of three games so far this season, although the draw at Chelsea showed certain aspects of hope.

Under Martin O'Neill, the Villa team look a completely changed squad from the one I remember. With the likes of Gabby Agbonlahor and Ashley Young, they will be a constant threat in the attacking half.

Spurs must play confident and offensive football if we are to have any success, rather than relying specifically on set-piece manoeuvres, which have been so pivotal this season. This is an area that looks to have improved since the arrival of David Bentley from Blackburn Rovers.

Similarly to other attacking teams within the Premier League, Villa are counter-attack specialists so our defence must also be as sharp as possible.

I have been impressed recently with the form of our defence, with Chris Gunter, Gareth Bale and Jonathan Woodgate providing a safe level of stability to our sometimes shaky back-line.
