<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Point guard Jontel Evans verbally committed to the University of Virginia on Friday, choosing the Cavaliers over Marquette, N.C. State and Virginia Tech. He is the first commitment for head coach Dave Leitao in the class of 2009.

ESPN.com's recruiting director Paul Biancardi describes Evans as a strong, tough point guard. "He's a physically strong, scoring point guard who handles the ball well in transition," Biancardi said. "Evans really excels in the open floor where he creates opportunities for himself and his teammates. He's also terrific in one-on-one battles because he possesses the ability to go by his defender, take contact and finish at the rim."

Evans is an excellent defender in addition to his offensive prowess. "His best asset is his on the ball defense," Biancardi said. "He consistently does a great job of keeping his man out of the lane. This is where his strength is really a factor."

If there is a weakness to Evans' game it's his outside shooting. "While he has a solid mid-range jumper his 3-point shooting needs to be more consistent," Biancardi noted.

Biancardi thinks this is a great get for Virginia and head coach Dave Leitao. "This is a terrific pickup for Coach Letiao," Biancardi said. "Evans fills an immediate need on the perimeter for the Cavaliers. He will also key their running game in the open floor and contribute on the defensive end. I expect Evans to play right away because he is physically and mentally strong enough."

Bethel head coach Craig Brehon has continually produced winning teams and last years' squad was no exception. Evans led Bethel to a 30-2 record in 2008 and finished as state runner-ups. This young man, who also excels on the football field, could join Allen Iverson as the next great point guard from Bethel High.</div>
