Contracts that will be coming off the books: Brandon Roy: $14.9m Marcus Camby: $9.2m Raymond Felton: $7.5m Greg Oden: $8.7m Depending on if we have a GM by then, next summer is going to be very interesting!
From csnw Think it’s a coincidence that the Portland Trail Blazers decided not to amnesty Roy? If this Brandon Roy retirement talk is true, the Blazers made out like bandits. Roy is reportedly going to use a medical retirement due to his degenerative knees and the Blazers will still have to pay his salary this season, but insurance would take care of the rest. This puts the Blazers in a great position free-agency wise. Marcus Camby, Greg Oden, Armon Johnson, and Raymond Felton are all unrestricted free-agents at the end of the season. Gerald Wallace could be in that bunch as he has a player option. That potentially opens up nearly $35 million. Fans can’t be mad at Paul Allen now. He supposedly was willing to give Brandon Roy an opportunity to prove that he was worthy of keeping him around past this season. He can now say it’s not his fault Roy chose not to stick around. At least that’s the angle he might play. There’s no way anybody can convince me that the Blazers knew nothing about Roy reportedly retiring. This situation is just too good for the Blazers to just happen upon. Think about it, Coach McMillan was saying that Roy was going to be the starter. Seriously? Nicolas Batum has been working his butt off all year attempting to play in the backcourt and Wesley Matthews had a solid campaign last season and you’re going to tell those guys that a guy with bone-on-bone knee problems, is a better option than you at the two? They bring in Felton to increase the tempo and McMillan is saying Roy can adjust to that style of play? It’s all making sense now. The Blazers knew all along what we’re just finding out. Roy’s salary will still be on the Blazers’ books this season and they’ll pay luxury tax, but the future is looking bright, all of a sudden. What a way to start the first day of training camp. We'll keep you informed as we check in during the Blazers first day of camp. Got a feeling Roy will be talked about a lot.
you "could" add Wallace to this list as a "possible" depending upon how this season goes and what are needs are. If he opts in next yr we would have the option to amnesty him if we thought Batum was our sure fired SF and we had other better choices for the money.
*IF* you could add Wallace that would be $50m off the books and a lot of room to re-sign Batum and other free-agents.
If you look at the 2012 FA list, it's just awful outside DWill and CP3. I think the only hope is to make some deals to absorb salary and give the other team a big trade exception.
if he does opt in we can amnesty him for sure, if he does opt out then he's off the books, nice flexibiluty to have
There is no chance we would sign howard or cp3. Maybe deron if the nets cant do anything this offseason and the tampering allegations are true
also don't forget that being under the cap will allow us to bid for amnestied players, a big plus for a quick retool
