NBADraft.net currently has us taking two PF/C types in with pick #19 and pick #49. With #19 it's Mich McGary, 6'10" from Michigan. With #49 it's Mouhammadou Jaiteh, 6'11" from France. I personally think we should draft a SG. Position of need. It's not like we should expect a slam dunk BPA type there at #19.
Draftexpress.com has Kansas center Jeff Withey going at #19. The site currently only predicts the top-25 picks. When you're picking that late, I believe that picking based on immediate need is foolish since the odds of selecting a player who is going to play important minutes on a contending team is a very long shot. Besides, I don't see SG as a particular position of need. BPA is the way to go, IMO.
Do you guys really get into the draft...like watch a lot of highlights, read analyses, etc? Do you watch a lot of regular season NCAA games? International games? Once upon a time I had strong opinions and even occasionally had "My Guy." However, for the past 5 years or so I've pretty much just waited for the results and gone from there.
I'm more into the draft when we have a pick close to #1. Mid 1st round is better than #29, so we should be able to get a guy like Taj or Butler even easier. As far as the Bulls drafting goes, it seems to me their theory is straightforward. Draft guys from winning programs who pass the "Skiles stares at the forehead" test, and who are athletic enough to play defense regardless of offensive ability. Like it or not, the Bulls are fools to try to play Deng and Butler in the same lineup. Neither one is a capable ball handler or playmaker. I love 'em both to death, but you really need one of the wing guys to have that ability. Either at SF or SG. The Bulls were 23rd in the league in fast break points. That's because the wings bounce the ball off their feet on the fast break while trying to dribble. It's horrible to watch. When Rose was healthy and we made the ECF, we were 19th in the league. Face it, the man needs help. Fast break points are easy easy baskets. It makes your offense look really good. You should make near 100% of those plays. So as I see it, the Bulls move Deng to PF and find a SF who can handle the ball or find a SG who can and use Butler as SG/SF backup. Since the team isn't going to open its wallet for a proven veteran star, the only option is to roll the dice in the draft.
Back in the bbb.net days I did. I had more free time (I'm 28 now with a "real" job, was an 18 year old nerd back then killing time). The Bulls were also terrible so it was more fun to pay attention to the draft. Now I mostly read up on draftexpress for a week or two leading up to the draft and rely on the opinions of others who watch a lot of college ball.
My uneducated perception of this draft is that it could prove favorable to the Bulls. It seems long on role players and short on franchise talent, and heavy on big guys who could be available when we pick. I'm all for BPA, but it looks like BPA could coincide with something the Bulls need this year.
Is there any package of players not named Lillard or Aldridge that, coupled with the #10 pick, makes sense for Noah on the Bulls side?
http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/trade_080626.html The Bulls traded the 39th pick in NBA Draft 2008 (which turned out to be 6-6 guard/forward Sonny Weems from Arkansas) to the Denver Nuggets for Denver’s 2009 regular second-round draft pick. Chicago then acquired the 36th selection in NBA Draft 2008 from the Portland Trail Blazers for Denver’s 2009 regular second-round pick, the New York Knicks’ 2009 regular second-round pick (acquired from New York on Oct. 4, 2005 in the Eddy Curry trade), and Chicago’s 2010 regular second-round draft pick.
As you know, I'm always willing to admit when I'm wrong. After reading the above I kinda felt like a duck who had been hit on the head. If i should admit that I'm wrong, just tell me to do so and I will. Thanks.
I had no intention of making you do anything or look bad. We disagreed about the facts, I found an article that had the facts. I think we're both the wiser for it. But maybe those guys in Portland's front office won't remember and they'll only ask for one 2nd rounder for the next Asik
