Sounds like the writers are struggling to write an ending for the coronavirus story arc after largely completing the "Republicans try to undermine democracy" arc. There was that abandoned murder hornet plot line and this feels like another example.
Exactly. Though, in this case, running out of George RR Martin source material might be a good thing for us.
I hope you're wrong but I suspect you're right. I think we'll get the next book, but unless he's been working on both the final two books concurrently, the last book feels out of reach.
