find that their unemployment benefits will run out within a few weeks. The big infusion that the Feds had provided to the state was thought to be able to last for six months, but as of the news today, those funds are almost gone.

These are people that had qualified for the latest extension. People that had not worked for over a year, and in some cases for over two.

The bright side is that when they fall off the dole, the will no longer be counted, so hey! The gov can report that the economy has improved by whatever number plus 22k!

It's people that have not worked in a year or two? I mean, sucks to be losing your unemployment benefits, but the shit really isn't meant to be a career. Take some crap job until you can find something better. Shouldn't take you two years to find something below you, just to be actually working. I don't want to sound insensitive, though i know it comes across that way. I don't know what you're doing for two years not working and getting unemployment.

It's harder to get a crap job than you think; when I was unemployed in 2001, you couldn't get a job at Plaid Pantry without previous Plaid Pantry experience. I got turned down by McDonalds, 7-11, Home Depot, Fred Meyer, and GI Joe's, because I was overqualified and likely to bolt as soon as I found real employment. Providers of crap jobs want them to go to people who are not likely to leave.

After 18 months where I couldn't get a job making sandwiches let alone writing tech manuals, I eventually clawed my way back to a 15-hour/week job in my industry and eventually got to full time after six more months of underemployment.

TL;DR: It's fucking hard to get shit jobs when you're not a shit job expert.

I tend to agree. In between professional jobs I've worked as a janitor and was grateful to have the income.

Every now and then for certain companies, but the majority of my work is W-2.
