I was watched the 1st half of the Utah game and I had a strange feeling of acceptance. Acceptance that we suck. No delusions, no player bashings...nothing. We just suck. It doesn't matter who's calling the plays, we would have come across the same point we are at now and that is this thing can't work anymore. Low field goal percentages, turnovers, lack of rebounding, lack of defense, lack of execution and lack of energy. Give Nelson 25 games to evaluate the roster. If we can make a run at the playoffs, keep the roster. If we don't, start a firesale. Looking from the outside, I don't see any way they can get to a .500 record. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. Like I said earlier, if Nelson can't turn this around then it couldn't be done with the team's current composition. Montgomery was the wrong coach on all accounts. In rebuilding mode, he would play the vets. In winning mode, he wouldn't put the burden of accountability on the vets. Nelson does both and that's why I feel confident with him. I'd trade one of Baron Davis/Jason Richardson and attach some bad contracts with them (Murphy or Foyle). In return we could get a player that fits Nelson's philosophy and an expiring contract. That would keep us under the luxury tax and give us room to resign anyone we would like. This would also give us a legitimate high draft pick during one of the deepest quality drafts. Not a #11 pick or a #9 pick but a 1-5 pick. Plenty of quality wings, guards and big guys to choose from. The most important reason I'm advocating this is we have multiple quality young prospects. Montay, Biedrins, Ike and even POB look like quality talent. They all have more range in their skills than everyone on our roster not named Baron Davis. We can team the kids with the veterans who fit the team. It's unknown whether that talent can blossom into a contender but when you have Nelson who has a history of developing players like Mullin, Hardaway, Nash, Nowitzki and etc. I'd think this is the smartest strategy.
I agree except for 25 games. I dont know when the trade deadline is, but I definately agree it should be no later than next season. I think Dallas did the same thing about 10 years ago or something. They just traded EVERYONE away and started fresh. We have several young guys that can play. I think the only person we should keep is Jrich because he is a decent player who is worth more than we pay him. We can use the same philosophy as the bobcats did when they came into the league and had the draft...
25 is a decent number especially considering how competitive the playoff race will be. Don Nelson stated that after 20 games we will be able to see if there is any hope or chance of making the playoffs. 25 is close to that number. This twenty game preview of this team's chances for making the playoffs is starting off rough however, since Jason and Murphy are not producing because of physical reasons and maybe other reasons such as lack of skill or talent(mostly speaking about Murphy on the latter). The Warriors are in pretty good company so far. The Suns are 1-3, Heat are 1-2, Sacramento is 1-2, Dallas is 0-2, Houston is 1-2, etc. The Warriors aren't going to lose anything before they finish their first week of the season. However the problem is not the record, but the way the team is playing. The hope lies in the rehabilitation and recovery of Jason Richardson. I agree that if the team fails to compete for a playoff spot, then trading some of the current starters could be ideal - the players that have been underachieving. I am not for freely trading Jason Richardson and Baron Davis - think about how terrible this team would be without these two players. But I would look to deal Murphy and Dunleavy - while possibly though relunctantly adding Pietrus and also Zarko to that package for something else(of course if the package could include Foyle, then that would be great as well).
