I'm tempted to write the president, and ask for a stimulus check. I'm serious too, and I'm totally not trying to be a smart ass (well, in the sense I'm asking for a check from the Government I am).

Giving me $$ will boost the local economy, because I'd by shit.

I actually had a similar idea when they first started doing the bailouts. I was going to set up a dummy consulting company by LLC here in Nevada and send AIG or whoever it was at the time a bill for 500 grand or so.

I figured that they might mess up and pay me, couldn't have hurt to try anyway.

But seriously, won't we get most of this money back through cigarette taxes? I suppose the money might leave the prison through underground drug trafficking also. Who knows?

Maybe anal rapes will decrease if dudes can by more porn, that has to save the prison health care system some cash.

    WIN WIN

Great idea! Let's give everyone $500. It will only cost $900 to do it with principal, interest and dead-weight loss, but it sure feels good!

You get paid in time off your sentence for working. And only county jails do highway cleanup. Not prison.

Too bad. If you work prisoners to exhaustion, you could get some return on your investment of imprisoning them, give them less energy for thing like raping other prisoners and starting gang wars and make prison even more unappealing. There's also something about wearing an orange jumpsuit in leg irons working in public. Nathaniel Hawthorne had it right about the implications of shame.

I'm a big fan of prisoners working as well. We're basically paying them a salary (room, board, sometimes TV) to do what? Sit in a secure facility and hopefully make our society safer?

I always thought it was funny that a prisoner would do any work. I figured what can they do to you if you don't, put you in prison?

I know there are plenty of benefits they could take away if you don't work, it just seemed funny at first.

If that's the case, it actually saves taxpayer money to have them work.

that hasnt done anything to curb recidivism. btw, just to digress a little bit- is anybody ashamed that american inmates account for 25% of the world's imprisoned population? or that u execute juveniles which puts u in the same company as the enlightened ppl's of saudi arabia and somalia?

U just angry u don't have the show Cops like us does. Cops helps the economy by putting more scumbags in jail which creates advertising revenue for the tv station. That redicivism can be blamed on Cops as well. If u were on Cops, u would offend agains so u could be on tv again, wouldn't u?

U are right about the juveniles, not that u shouldn't be allowed to kill Jeffrey Dahmer because he is only 17, but because u should be allowed to drink booze and vote if u are eligible for the chair.
