ABM kinda reminded me that sometimes NBA teams showcase (even though he was making a joke). Could it be that KP told Nate to play both Blake and Miller to showcase either one? I mean using one or the other to grab another player? I know it maybe "far-fetched" but that could be a nice justification and sigh of relief to those apposed. :D

I think I heard someone allude to this possibility earlier today on the radio, and I can't help but hope that it's true. If Blake is being showcased as trade bait, I would be thrilled.

Doesn't make much sense, unless they are trying to showcase both of them at once. Otherwise, you'd just play the showcasee.

Not at the expense of wins you wouldn't. Maybe if you were showcasing an aging superstar for a blockbuster, but I can't see us upping the trade value of a journeymen at the expense of wins.

1 on 5 isn't fair at either end of the court.

What has Nate ever done that would suggest he would go along with that?

I don't think so...I think the move was made in desperation, and it's paid off

i still dont get the whole "showcasing" deal...these teams know so much about every player in the league. especially someone like blake or miller who are veterans.

I've thought that Miller was put in the lineup to showcase him for a trade. But now they're winning. Hmmmmm

Maybe that's what they are doing. Seeing what teams offer them for what player. Or maybe even forcing the issue with one they want dealt.

Blake and Miller have such a body of work behind them, and it's so early in the season, that there really shouldn't be much doubt about what kind of players they are. So "showcasing" isn't really necessary to trade either.

Besides, I tend to associate showcasing with mediocre-to-bad teams. If you are planning on winning 50+ games and making a deep playoff run, you don't jeopardize it when you aren't playing well by trying to showcase some of your players.

True, just had a "light bulb" flash in my head when ABM made a sarcastic comment about the showcase. But I gotta tell you during that SAS game, I've never seen Nate act so "excited" when asked about the line-up. Seriously, he is so reserved and when the side reporter asked if he was going to use this line-up more, without a second passed Nate said "OH YES!" with a big smile on his face.

Seems to me that Nate really likes this line-up.

As usual, mook beats me to my post. There isn't a scout or GM in the league who doesn't already know everything they need to know about Miller and Blake. If there is any showcasing, it is in getting more minutes for Bayless. And even then, I think that is just serendipity in that the 3-guard lineup allows Nate to develop Bayless more and sooner.

Yep. I think showcasing, if it happens at all, probably only happens in the case of rookies, or vets just recovering from serious injuries. For other players, the downside (player doesn't play well during showcase, player gets injured during showcase, team loses games it could have won during showcase) is at least as high as the upside (opposing GM forms a better opinion of showcased player).

It could be a transition to Blake not starting... get Miller used to the lineup. The problem with Miller starting is the will really need the SF to be able to hit outside shots... and so far that hasn't happened. Blake can keep the defense honest but if Miller starts they will be sagging in the middle even more.
