That's what the Warriors had against the Lakers last night. 35 and 0. Now, of course all the Lakers' starters were sitting at this point, and Dwight Howard wasn't even playing, but even so. The Lakers are paper-thin. And old. A bad combination. They almost certainly have the best starting five, but if they get injuries it's going to be a tough season. Their bench is Antawn Jamison, Steve Blake and Jodie Meeks. (Oh, and the Warriors didn't have Stephen Curry. But, of course, they very rarely have Stephen Curry. Oh, or Bogut, who is either unlucky or turning Odenesque.)
The L.A. starting unit could be scary-good but their bench is atrocious. They're fucked if one of their core players gets hurt or in early foul trouble.
Antawn Jamison is a great player to have off the bench, far superior to any bench prospect on our team. Blake is a decent 8th man. Don't they have Josh McRoberts? He was solid for the Pacers. Still I agree it's one of the weaker benches for contending teams. But I'm sure if they have an injury they can make a trade or sign some veteran released by a lottery team. They might have a young guy who comes out of no where to be a solid role player. Having acceptable role players is the easiest roster hole to fill in the NBA. If their starters are healthy its either them or the Thunder in the finals the other 13 west teams have zero chance.
Just realized our backup PGs are Ronnie Price, who can't play PG on offense, and Nolan Smith, who can't play PG on either end. Blake would be a vastly superior option on our team but is a weakness on another squad? Shows how dreadful this season is going to be for us ;(
They aren't thin. Imagine Pau or Nash or Howard or Kobe were playing along side 4 of those bench guys. Think they'd still go 0-35? Hardly. It's absurd to say the Lakers are in Big Trouble if one of the 4 go down with an injury. If that were to happen, they'd go from being massively heavy favorites to win the WCF (and favorites to win a championship) to having a 50:50 shot at making the Finals. At least. That's the kind of Big Trouble I wish the Blazers had. And as long as Nash and Howard are healthy, the Lakers are terrifying. That kind of shooting, passing, penetration, defense and finishing ability at that elite level is just unfair. Those two guys go together like yin and yang, butter and toast. They make Stockton and Malone look like the Odd Couple in terms of fit. So their 6th best player is maybe Steve Blake. That does suck for them. But there are a whole heap of problems you have to deal with on the Lakers before you get to Steve Blake.
Yes. The backup PG situation is pretty atrocious right now. I'm a little surprised it hasn't been addressed at all.
i think the no backup pg might have been the plan, give lallard the rope and hope he doesnt hang himself if he does, we are picking top 3 instead of 7th with a "vet pg"
I actually haven't even checked to see who is out there. But I don't want somebody because I think Lillard shouldn't have the rope. I just want somebody that can give him 10-15 minutes of rest and actually bring the ball up the court. We don't have anybody that can even handle the ball against a tough D at this point.
i must admit im not familiar with price at all, but maybe batum brings the ball up a little, or nolan
I've always thought of Price as a shooting guard. And I think Batum would get eaten alive by pressure defense. Hopefully Nolan has improved more than I'm giving him credit for.
Still looking shitty. And already the rumors about acquiring more players (Calderon) have started. (Yes, they should be unbeatable for all the time they can have their starting five on the court. But Jamison is looking very past it, and he's their #6 guy.)
No, but they'd still lose, and there'd be more minutes on that aging starter. I think people are living in the past. Everyone but Howard is (quite a lot) past his prime. And Howard's coming off back surgery. Name a player who was the same after back surgery.
Wow! Even healthy, I don't see them matching up with the current WC Champions. Westbrook took it to the hole at will against them last year and I don't see why we should expect to see anything else this year. Of course with the age and injury history of their roster, they're pretty unlikely to be healthy following the regular season marathon... I see an early round flameout as more likely then them making it to the finals STOMP
Apparently the Lakers are now "the best 0-6 team in history". Another accolade to add to their championship banners.
I don't want to just hand them this honor. They must earn it. So I need to know, who was the previous best 0-6 preseason team in history?
