(Jan. 3, 2007) -- The San Francisco 49ers fired defensive coordinator Billy Davis after yielding an NFL-worst 412 points this season.Coach Mike Nolan also dismissed defensive line coach Gary Emanuel in a shakeup to fix a defense that was largely the responsibility of Nolan, a longtime defensive coordinator for four NFL teams.Davis joined Nolan's staff in 2005 after one season as New York Giants linebackers coach and three previous seasons in the same position with Atlanta. With little talent or depth in San Francisco, his first defense allowed 428 points last season -- third worst in the NFL -- and finished dead last in several statistical categories.Though Nolan was heavily involved in defensive game-planning, Davis took much of the public heat as the 49ers' defense had several terrible games this season, most notably giving up 41 points by halftime in a blowout loss to the Chicago Bears. The unit improved markedly in the second half of the season, yet still finished with unimpressive statistics.Nolan refused to give a vote of confidence to Davis when he wrapped up the season, saying only, "I think Billy did a good job."Nolan made no immediate announcement of Davis' successor. After offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy left to coach the Green Bay Packers following last season, Nolan quickly hired veteran coach Norv Turner to take over.</div>http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/SF/9905603

^that's not true. It was really more the first 6 or 7 games where we were playing the 3-4 and switching and trying to trick offenses that we were so bad. When trying to trick offenses, we confused ourselves, and that's when we went simple and started playing well. We didnt have less then any other team, but yeah, we did have less then most teams to work with. But he had a lot of young guys and IMO he coulda worked them better.Still, good move on our part

And there is an arguement about the talent, it wasnt his play callin or coachin that had our defense win against the Seahawks and Broncos. It was the players
