How far can one franchise come in 5 years? Well, I just decided to put this up to give you guys a little perspective on what our club has done since the year 2000. We've come a long, long way. <font color="Green">The Players</font> CELTICS 2000-2001 ROSTER NUM PLAYER POS HT WT DOB FROM YRS 7 Kenny Anderson* G 6-1 168 10/9/70 Georgia Tech '91 9 4 Tony Battie C 6-11 240 2/11/76 Texas Tech '97 3 30 Mark Blount C 7-0 230 11/30/75 Pittsburgh '97 R 11 Randy Brown G 6-2 190 5/22/68 New Mexico State '91 9 43 Chris Carr G 6-6 220 3/12/74 Southern Illinois '95 5 44 Adrian Griffin G 6-5 215 7/4/74 Seton Hall '96 1 12 Chris Herren* G 6-2 190 9/27/75 Fresno State '99 1 0 Walter McCarty* F 6-10 230 2/1/74 Kentucky '96 4 5 Jerome Moiso F 6-10 232 6/15/78 UCLA '00 R 34 Paul Pierce G 6-6 230 10/13/77 Kansas '98 2 52 Vitaly Potapenko F 6-10 285 3/21/75 Wright State '96 4 20 Bryant Stith G 6-5 210 12/10/70 Virginia '92 8 8 Antoine Walker F 6-9 245 8/12/76 Kentucky '96 4 55 Eric Williams F 6-8 220 7/17/72 Providence '95 5 Statistical Leaders Points Per Game: 1- Paul Pierce (25.3 PPG) 2- Antoine Walker (23.4 PPG) Rebounds Per Game: 1- Antoine Walker (8.1 RPG) 2- Paul Pierce (6.4 RPG) Assists Per Game: 1- Antoine Walker (5.5 APG) 2- Kenny Anderson (4.4 APG) During the 00-01 campaign the Celtics were 36-46 and finished 5th in the Atlantic Division. These are just some names and numbers to look over and discuss. How far do you think the Celtics have come in a 5 year period? Do you think they have made the right or wrong moves? Who should they have kept? And who should have been let go long ago? for further analysis: Link Just some
Well, that's kind of an objective thing to try to explain, but I'll give it a go. When you look at the statistical leaders, you realize, the core of the team is only just now changing. Getting rid of Antoine those years ago probably wasn't the worst thing they ever did, but it did change the way we thought about this team. We weren't a shoot-first, happy go chucky kind of club, and all of a sudden, our FG% and defense were a priority, and the team got better. Now that doesn't mean Antoine was a welcome addition last year, he was, but it's probably for the best that he move along. Especially now that Thrilla has dropped some knowledge on us about his knees. I have a hard time understanding why we haven't again moved away from the Mark Blount era. That's only half joking, the man really hasn't contributed anything to the team yet. He had his walk year, and that was about it. Leaving Kenny Anderson behind was an inevitability, the man is downright old. Aside from that, I always thought Adrian Griffin was a good little player, but nothing worth holding on to. There is really no reason to say that any of these players is more worth having around than another. We all knew it was time for Walta to go last year, sad but true, other than that, the rest are small potatoes. The fact that they've turned over their entire roster in five years is no surprise, but what they've replaced it with may be. I would surprised if this team was ready to win big games this year, but I won't be in the the years to come. I love what Ainge has put together, and I love what Doc has done so far, and will do soon enough. Under close watching and care, we may see some of these youngsters turn into special players.
yeah, he has gone in a complete different direction, ill admit, when he first came aboard, i didnt like him too much as I loved Antoine n was not happy to see him go...but, he has worked wonders in the draft, and has made me feel very optimistic about the celts' future, which is something that I havent felt in a long time!
I think ainge has done a very nice job...he has some nice veteran pieces (pierce, lafrentz, davis) to accomodate the young talent (banks, west, allen, green, jefferson)...if they stay together and stay healthy, this team is going to be downright SCARY in 2-3 years...
The future: PG - West SG - Allen SF - Green PF - Jefferson C - Perkins Now that is a CRAZY lineup if they live up to potential.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bobcats:</div><div class="quote_post">The future: PG - West SG - Allen SF - Green PF - Jefferson C - Perkins Now that is a CRAZY lineup if they live up to potential.</div> they may go big and have Allen play 1 because Ryan Gomes will definately be a future starter.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting playmaker14:</div><div class="quote_post">they may go big and have Allen play 1 because Ryan Gomes will definately be a future starter.</div> No no no no no, Tony Allen will not ever play the one for this team. With both Doc's and Danny's appreciation of a legitimate point guard, Tony will have to wait out his turn at the 2. Tony is a solid perimeter defender, dunk artist, and he can get to the hoop as well as anyone on the team, but he is not a point guard, and he won't be, either. Tony cannot run an offense, and doesn't get up the floor quite quick enough to be the point guard this team needs. Nevertheless, Gerald Green will be the man at the two, eventually that is, because Gomes is a gamer now, and will continue to be in the future. Not only that, but Tony Allen is 6'4", and so is the man they drafted in the second round after Ryan Gomes, Orien Greene, and Greene happens to be a monster on the defensive end, as well as a solid contributor on set plays. Not to mention, if he stays healthy, he can fly.
