...found this interesting; http://espn.go.com/newyork/photos/g...ge/51/1-babe-ruth-espn-ny-50-greatest-yankees ...some rankings surprised me, some did not.
I definitely disagree with A-Rod being on the list, let alone ranking him at 13th... others I probably would have slid around a bit, bit for the most part, I thought they were fair
The top 4 are a given though you couldn't go wrong if you picked either Ruth or Gehrig for the #1 spot. One can't help but wonder what Gehrig's final #s would have looked like had he he not fallen due to illness. And in rounding out the top 5 I would have put Jeter right after Mantle. And yeah A-Rod should not be that high & if we're being honest, you take away that one 3 homer world series game & Jackson doesn't even make the top forty or for that matter a place in monument park.
Agreed about Reggie as well... good, absolutely, but I don't think he quite belongs on the list if it weren't for that game let alone that high on the list...
...yup, Mantle was my guy when I was a kid but Gehrig was right behind him. Lou played his entire career in the Babe's shadow but Ruth owes a lot of his success to the fact that he hit behind Gehrig most of the time. ...I also agree about Reggie having his number retired and having a spot in Monument Park...he doesn't belong. ...ARod?...fuck him.
Arod will eventually be removed from that list, at 3rd give me Nettles any day. Elston Howard, Roy White, and Winnie were among my favorite players. With a blip caused by WWII the Combs to Di-Maggio-Mantle- Murcer was a superb Center Field line. Did not appreciate Henderson on the list, and Reggie Jax had 1 game in my view. Due to foreign service between 1964 thru 1984 following the seasons got erratic at times but those of us who were fans of the game managed to keep up one way or another even if we did get a bit behind.
