before the end of the trade deadline. They're several things to consider, If we're expecting to get any decent players (McCann, Rios, Morales etc.) We first need to be sure we have the proper pieces that another team would want. And right now I see our only affordable players are the one's in the bullpen. Honestly I just don't see any position players aside from Cano that any team would want. And IMO I really don't want to see the Yankees deal what few good young players we have. (Almonte, Sanchez & even Nunez). And another thing to consider is that even if we get guys like McCann & Morales, they're only rentals as they both become FAs at the end of the year. So again IMO if we are lucky enough to grab two players like that you have to sign them Immediately to 3-4 year contracts. Otherwise you gave up trade chips for nothing.
A few other FAs to consider are the Rangers LFer David Murphy who's making 5.7M this season. And Milwaukee's RFer Corey Hart. Making 10M this season. And then there RHP Gavin Floyd of the White Sox making 9.5M this year. Just a few other names to consider.
Maybe we should list some expendable chips, or maybe not so expendable but more like players we should consider trading: Hughes (impending FA, much like McCann, who can be quite valuable elsewhere…cough, Atlanta) Joba Logan Kelly Adams JR Murphy (if a catcher could be had to bridge the team to Sanchez) Mustellier (before he is officially too old) Romine(?) Heathcot ...others I'm missing, so have at it. This list alone could get you something.
I think from that list Hughes, Murphy & Kelley would be your bigger trade chips. Mustellier IMO is done. I don't think anyone is going to take an interest in a 29 year old minor leaguer.
With Hudson's injury - what about Hughes for McCann (maybe some other pieces if needed)? Sure would fill a need for both teams right about now.
I think I'm 2-2 this year on guys I wanted. AJ and Shierholtz (probably have never spelled his name correctly) are my wins - Keppinger and Reed Johnson are my losses (although I think Reed Johnson would have been better than Ben Francisco), so maybe I'll give myself a 2.5-1.5.
Yea, and we both knew Cashman would sign Youkilis, even though neither of us wanted him. Wish Cashman would have been a bit more prudent - Red Sox got Napoli on a $5M guaranteed deal, with another $7M due based on performance. Cash just handed Youk the whole $12M, with no performance provisions at all.
...yeah, in retrospect, Youk was a horrible move...and to be honest, I didn't think Napoli would do as well as he has...of course, the green monstah helps.
For what its worth you spelled his name correctly. BTW: A guy I've been lobbying for is Kendrys Morales. A DH / 1st baseman. Kills two birds with one stone. A great back up for Tex & the everyday DH.
