7 seconds or less offense, what would happen?

What if the Nets were to adopt a D'Antonio like offense? The Nets are a poor defensive team and that might not improve this season, so what if the Nets could make a few changes to their roster and go with a high octane offensive approach?

Think of the Nets-Mavs game where Devin was racing up court and pulling up for 3's. Carter the same. Hayes getting out on the fast break for layups. Maybe it's something that will help Yi as well? He has hit some confident looking jumpers while in transition this season.

The major change that would need to take place is upgrading the SF spot. Get a guy like Mike Miller from the Wolves (who have lost 13 straight now). Miller can definitely get out in transition and hit 3's as well as play in a half court dribble drive offense. Guys like Dooling, Hayes, Najera, Anderson, CDR and Boone can all get up and down the floor.

On defense Frank likes to pack the paint anyways and the Nets give up 3's so the game would kind of come down to their shooters vs the Nets shooters. If they miss they give up long rebounds and Harris takes off down floor.

A high octane offense could be really fun to watch.

Could the Nets pull off a playing style change at this point in the season and would you want them to?

It's interesting. I'm not comfortable with Harris running the break, he tend to be selfish. Lopez's foot speed might not be great for run and gun. Swat might be good and we have Swift too.

Frank might be too anal to run this type of offense, the defense has been terrible so far and he still hasn't changed anything.

Nets definitely have better offensive players than defensive ones. A young team should run.

Right, because when your team is depending on rookies for meaningful minutes every night, it makes PERFECT sense to change up the offense as your team is exceeding expectations.

Just because the defense isn't great now doesn't mean that the Nets and Frank should stop preaching it. This team has many young players and rookies and it would be a terrible idea not to instill good defense instincts early on. As the young players and rookies adjust to the NBA and Frank's system, the defense will improve. In the mean time, keep hammering into their heads that they have to play defense to win.

Remember, this team is also being built for the future. Just because a high octane offense may be good now, I wouldn't prioritize it over being a good defensive team.

The coach is the most important for a team's defense and communication and teamwork. The Jordan era Bulls didn't even have good center and they had one of the best defense. Gasol was known as a weak defender, but the this year the Lakers are one of the leagues best teams in defense.

The Nets suck on defense, top to bottom, but it starts with Frank. Every time Yi miss a shot at the corner or near the basket. Harris or Carter never runs back on D, giving the other team easy fast breaks. I've seen this consistently and so does the commentary. The Nets is one of the worse defending outside shots.

You try way too hard to embarrass a bad player like Yi for you own ego, son.

Let's see now, the Nets are 2.5 games ahead of the D'Antoni offense in New York, 2 games ahead of the Sixers and three games ahead of the Raptors, the latter two having been hyped for greatness this season. They have, as noted, exceeded ALL expectations (except for Dumpy's). The dribble-drive offense has made Devin Harris one of the top players in the NBA (three players in the NBA are averaging 24 ppg and 6 apg--their names are Lebron, Dwyane and Devin) but now is the time to adopt a new offense!

Their offense is fine in my opinion.. they just HAVE to play better defense and we'll be a MUCH better team.
The only things that I would change in the offense are:
- Post Yi more whenever his jumpers aren't falling.
- Post B-lo some more because he is pretty good in the post and can facilitate for others.

It's a good idea if Brook is out and I like the idea of getting Miller, who would fit this team perfectly, but I'd rather them forcefeed Brook every posession to get him a couple of reps in the post and let him attract doubles as he can learn how to kick out to the open shooters, and we got plenty on this team. I want them to take full advantage of Brooks game and play off of him but when h's out, then the up and down game is a must.

offense is fine...defense needs work.

our young bigs get no respect inside so they are often in foul trouble (the nets lead the league in fouls and DQs).
SOLUTION: not much we can do about it. work hard to establish yourself quickly i guess and just keep plugging away.

we lack hustle as evidenced by our mediocre stats on the blks and stls and opp TOs.
SOLUTION: hustle, hustle, hustle! we r a young team! or give playing time to hustling players (hassell, najera, cdr)

we lack an inside presence who can get points and rebounds inside to give other teams' defenses another thing to think about and who will increase the nets' fg% & fta and increase other teams' fouls against us...
SOLUTION: the hope is that brook lopez will turn into this...

I didn't watch the NBA during that time, but didn't the Jordan era Bulls have Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman? I think if your 2, 3, and 4 spots contain some of the best defenders in the league, then the other two spots don't need to be as good.

Also the current Lakers have Bynum anchoring the paint defense with Kobe and Fisher on the perimeter and Trevor Ariza coming off the bench.

Been there, tried that. It didn't work when we had the best open court passer in the game (Kidd) and an elite finisher with range next to him (RJ). What makes you think it will work now? Carter's game just isn't suited for an uptempo offense.

Didn't we try that with the Knicks and got our butts kicked? Nice. So what happens when the our offense is not producing (we choke like we did against the Rockets)? We lose 165-64. Defense comes first. We need inside presence and perimeter stoppers. I'm tired of getting buried by three's and low post big men.

I'm not saying the Nets abandon trying to play defense. In fact, the defense the should be geared toward fueling the offense. It seemed the D'Antonio Phoenix Suns teams would try and cheat to cause a turn over and get a steal to get out on the fast break. They would risk giving up some defensive positioning and would dare the other team to make them pay for it by putting up a shot early in the shot clock. Either they got the turnover/steal or the other team would put up an early shot or hold back and play more cautious and the Suns would get back into defensive positions. It was all geared toward upping the tempo of the game to a relentless up and down pace. They would basically dare you to play their game and run you off the court.

Who's to say Devin and the other Nets won't have success in that kind of system? Maybe they would more so.

Here is some game footage of the Nets getting up and down the court. They do this in stretches and have looked good at times but what if they did this more consistently for most of the game?
