<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jim O'Brien, a Philadelphia guy, used to play point guard for St. Joseph's. Jameer Nelson, a Chester guy (close enough), used to play point guard for St. Joseph's. O'Brien now coaches the 76ers. Nelson's legion of fans in the Big Five and throughout the area would love to see him drafted by the Sixers and playing for them next season. But... The way O'Brien put it yesterday was that in his view, Nelson is not a top-10 pick. The Sixers will find out tonight during the NBA draft lottery exactly where they will be selecting in next month's draft, but they won't be picking any lower than ninth. Certainly, to pass on the 5-foot-11 Nelson, who led the Hawks to an undefeated regular season and into the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament, and won several player-of-the-year awards, might turn out to be a public-relations blunder of huge proportions. But O'Brien, who stressed that his feelings reflected his personal opinion and not the position of the 76ers organization led by president and general manager Billy King and assistant general manager Tony DiLeo, has studied close to 15 prospects, and Nelson doesn't measure up to the elite ones. "I would not necessarily have Jameer in the top 10 in the lottery," O'Brien, a 1974 St. Joe's graduate, said yesterday at a luncheon. "If I had to make the call, which I'm not making the call, I don't think that scenario [drafting Nelson] is going to happen." O'Brien quickly explained that it's not what Nelson lacks that has him out of the top 10, but what some other players possess in greater quantity. "It's the strength that I personally see with the international players, the high school players and other four-year [college] players," O'Brien said. Nelson, he said, "is a terrific player that will have a great deal of success in the NBA.</div> <div align="center">Full Story</div> I have mixed emotions about this. First of all, Eric Snow would most likely come off the bench, and this is the guy that's most familiar with playing with Allen Iverson. So I think that would have an affect. Next, the Sixers backcourt would be undersized. It could possibly be the most undersized backcourt in the league. Allen Iverson is standing barely at 6 Feet and Jameer Nelson isn't even 6 Feet. Although, they would torch many of the NBA other backcourts with their speed, they would get crushed on the other side of the court. They wouldn't be able to play no kind of defense whatsoever. And I personally don't like the fact of Eric Snow coming off the bench. I wouldn't mind if we got Jameer Nelson in the NBA Draft, but it's going to depend on how we use him in order for things to work. I'm really hoping the Sixers can get a jump shooter. Hopefully, that player would be nothing like Kyle Korver. Instead a player who can play defense and is pretty decent in other aspects of the game. I don't really follow College Basketball, so I don't what kind of player would be able to fit that role. But whatever the Sixers do, it better be good. No H.S kids!
There is no way Iverson and Nelson could play together. Nelson is not a true PG, like Eric Snow is. You cannot have a scoring PG playing with Iverson. It won't work. The size is a huge thing. Allen Iverson, who is maybe 6 feet, and Nelson is who is probably 5'10", would be the smallest backcourt in the NBA. I would like to see the Sixers take either Childress or Josh Smith, yes a HS kid. Both are about 6-8, and play SF. Smith is an athletic freak, and Childress is a good all around player.

I forgot to mention that, Jameer Nelson is a shoot first PG, so that definitely wouldn't work if Allen Iverson is on the team. But what would happen if he came off the bench? G- Jameer Nelson G- Willie Green F- Aaron McKie F- Mark Blount? C- Mark Jackson That's no All-Star team, but that's one hell of a 2nd team. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I would like to see the Sixers take either Childress or Josh Smith, yes a HS kid. But if we were to get him, he better have some kind of impact on the team. The Sixers can't wait another 4 years till this guy develops. But on another note the guys from PTI were talking about how there are too many HS kids coming in the NBA, and I agree. The best player coming out of the Draft is Emeka Okafor who would have an immediate impact, but he's already severing from back spasms (Good luck Orlando Magics ), other than that a lot of these guys are HS kids, that's going to take a while to develop. They were also saying that's this year NBA Draft is overrated. Which, I completely agree with. You agree wit this?
It would be interesting to see Nelson in Philly. Iverson could leave, and he could replace him. I think it would work
There's an article on hoopshype where O'brien was interviewed by the Philly Inquirer and he said Nelson won't be a Sixers, straight up...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kobe 8 Ball:</div><div class="quote_post">It would be interesting to see Nelson in Philly. Iverson could leave, and he could replace him. I think it would work</div> Do explain...
I think Jameer and AI would wreak havoc on the league, given Jameer can be molded into a true pg. Who cares if they are the smallest in the league, look at what AI has been able to do at his size. I dunno, I honestly don't see this year's pick impacting the team much anyway so no biggie. Anyone seen Andre Iguodala play? He's projected to be the Sixers pick, a 6'8" SG whose career high is 25pts.
Here's another report saying the 76ers ARE NOT INTERESTED IN JAMEER <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">PHILADELPHIA - With what the Sixers expect will be the ninth pick in the 2004 NBA Draft on June 24, new coach Jim O'Brien said yesterday the team will not be select Jameer Nelson, the consensus NCAA Player of the Year at Saint Joseph's University. That's not a knock on the 6-foot Nelson, says O'Brien, a former Hawk, but an indication that there is more to this draft than most people suspect. "You cannot have any emotions impacting your decision," O'Brien said at an informal media session yesterday on the eve of tonight's NBA Draft Lottery, which will be held in Secaucus and televised by ESPN prior to the start of the Detroit-Indiana game (8-8:30 p.m.). "We have to take the best player who will help the organization, whoever that is. </div> Source
i hope not! jameer is talented for sure, but with two man that small in our backcourt our defence would become even more problems. and i think there are enough holes to fill for new coach. better get a big guard or a sf that can play defence.
