<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"The 76ers worked out former Camden High star Dajuan Wagner in private after the team's morning rookie/free agent camp session Friday in Philadelphia. Wagner, a 6-foot-2 guard, is a free agent because the Cavaliers, who made him the sixth pick in the 2001 draft after one season at the University of Memphis, declined to offer him a fourth-year qualifying offer of $3.59 million."</div> www.hoopshype.com Interesting, if I'm not mistaken Wagner averaged around 13 points in his rookie season. He has also scored 100+ points in a high school game. To top it off he is a big Iverson fan so you know he will come in with a positive attitude and maybe learn some new things. After his rookie season, he had a hard time with injuries and, family problems. Hopefully there is a chance this guy can get back on track. I would not mind Philly signing him because everybody knows he can play under the right circumstances. The thing with him is, he has never played more then 50 games in his career and that can become a problem. This guy should be working non stop to get in playing shape and to continue playing, but still I think it would be ok to give him a shot. If you didn't notice Wagner is kind of similar to Green, they both like slashing to the basket and both are around the same size.
Yeah, from what I've heard, Wagner is definitely a question mark with his injuries and whether or not he can convert his game to the NBA. We can give him a chance, but I'm not sure he'll make that big of an impact. I mean, if he was a good player, I'm sure Cleveland would have figured that out instead of playing him very limited minutes in his last two seasons. Still, I'll agree with you that Green's and Wagner's games are somewhat similar, that they have lit up other teams before but aren't exactly proven players. In fact, I think Wagner has a better jumpshot than Green but both really need to work on their consistency.
Is there really a need to sign another short guard like him? AI 5'11, Louis Willliams AND Wags are 6'2(or something like that). But I don't think it would matter if we give him like a 4 yera 3. something milllion contract like it said above. Doesn't reallyl hurt us in anyway. It would be nice if he actuallyl turn out to be able to contribute
Wagner can play. For a stretch of games when he was healthy in his rookie season, he averages 21 points per game. At that point, I thought he'd get ROY espeically if he kept up the 21 per. I think having 3 small but explosive guards would be nice in some games, wear down the defense, and if the opposing team doesn't really have matchup size, the 76ers could run circles around them.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting iversonfan3:</div><div class="quote_post">Is there really a need to sign another short guard like him? Him and Wagner are about the same size so nothing much different has happened. I do agree with you though to a certain extent, when Green comes back then the 76ers will have a lot of smaller guards, but you never know (god forbid) Green could never make a full recovery from his knee surgery so I think it is a good idea to go ahead and get Wagner if possible.
I wouldn't like this one at all, Wagner has injury problems and he is another 6' player that plays exactly like Louis Williams. This would no question be a risk but didn't we take risks with Steven Hunter and Louis Williams? We took a lot of risks this off-season and I don't think we should take one more.
well, in my opinion, if the sixers are looking for a scorer, then they should give him a chance. but i dont think we are looking for one as of now. and also, i dont really know how good he is defensively. i heard some where that he doesnt put enough effort in at the D.
If Wagner is 100%, I think we should give him one year or something, but I wouldn`t sign to like 2 0r 3 just yet. Green is out 6-9 months, we`re going to need some kind of replacement, Wagner would be nice, but only if he`s 100%.
Wagner is a good player my dad followed him from highschool and he is really a good player and if he is given a chance he can give the sixers what they need honestly.
I forgot all about Wagner in the free agent market. He was deemed the next AI coming out of college and high school. It would be interesting to see the Sixers pick him up, especially after they drafted Louis Williams, another AI clone.
Well another slasher/scorer/passer would be excellent in my opinion. I have followed Dajuan since high school also and he is a real talent. He can run and jump and is very athletic when healthy. Also, the lack of height in our guard rotation, while it does seem a little disturbing, we did make the NBA finals with no one over 6-2 when we had A.I and Snow starting. Since Derek Anderson is going to Houston, Finley looks like he is going to Miami and Alan Houston never got waived, we should take this chance. His rookie year showed flashes of brilliance and with the right people and situation, he could be quite productive for us.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"Rose confirmed that Dajuan Wagner, another client, worked out Friday for the Sixers. Though he said the feedback was "very positive," he did not want to talk about the degree of the Sixers' interest. Wagner, the former Camden High star, is an unrestricted free agent after three injury-plagued seasons with Cleveland."</div> Hoopshype Its confirmed, now we know that its not just some rumor.
I would pass on him. His past injury problems indicate that he cannot play full seasons without injury. If he cannot be on the floor, it does not matter how good he is.
Any more news on this?? i would really like to see dujuan in a sixers uniform. i think that he would be a great addition to a team that needs a spark off the bench.
What up with old threads gettin brought back up? lol But anyway, I'd like to know this too, anything new?
I haven?t heard any thing about this lately, but would be ecstatic about this signing. Wagner?s career has been hindered by injury thus far, but he is a great scorer, and a good spark off the bench or even in the starting lineup should one of our starters go down. He can really help ease transition when the second team is in their we will not have to worry about not being able to put the ball in the basket with him and Salmons coming in with the second unit it would be a formidable scoring duo. Along with Steven Hunter, and whoever we will have backing up Chris Webber they could make a good back up unit so their will not be as big a let down like their was last year.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">King said that even though the Sixers are less than $1 million short of the luxury-tax threshold, he will not hesitate to bring in players if they can "get us over the hump." The Sixers are expected to soon announce the names of three or four players who will accompany them to camp, King said... .
