<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>In an interview for a forthcoming book, Harold Katz, the former Sixers owner, revealed something that he offered Julius Erving, the Hall of Fame forward, to Chicago on the eve of the 1984 draft for the third overall pick, which the Bulls used to select Michael Jordan."I thought I had a deal with Jonathan Kovler (then the principal owner) of the Bulls for the third pick," Katz told Pat Williams, once the Sixers' general manager, in an interview for "Pat Williams' Tales of the 1982-83 76ers."Ultimately, Katz said, "Rod Thorn [then the Bulls' general manager] killed that one and took Michael Jordan. I would have made that deal."Thorn, now the president of the New Jersey Nets , confirmed to Williams that Kovler approached him about such a deal, and that he rejected it.</div> Found this on another forum.

Wow, if this had occured it would have changed NBA history forever. Imagine Jordan a 76er, my god Chicago made a very smart move.

Jordan could've been a Pacer too. The Pacers had the #2 pick in the draft but traded it to Portland (who selected Sam Bowie) and then the Bulls, of course, selected MJ at #3. But he could've been a Pacer.

Well he more realistically could've been a Blazer... Which would've ruled... [IMG]

This disproves the idiotic notion that people are now trying to say that Jordan wasn't thought of as a future star. Another story like this is that Portland's coach at the time asked bobby knight who to pick, and knight said "Michael Jordan". Portland said "we need a center" and knight replied "then play Jordan at center!"

People thought Jordan was a star, just not in the way they thought of LeBron James or something. Dean Smith had a loaded team at North Carolina and didn't use MJ's ability all that much. Hence, not to many in the basketball world knew what he was to become. And the Blazers wouldn't have been that great if they picked Jordan, they would have had like 35 shooting guards. Ooooh.

Does that mean it would of been Jordan, Barkley, and Malone? If so that's just amazing but Im glad this didn't happen.

Who knows how many titles the 76ers would have won... but oh well.

This would have been great. But we wouldnt have gotten AI. Barkley and Jordan would have been to good to get the a lotto pick.Would have been a dynasty though.

Brilliant.

Philly could have had Malone, Barkley and Stockton though but they passed over Stockton for Leon Wood.
