Holy Crap. And I mean Holy Crap! Not only would Bush have been murdered for something this stupid, he would have been declared totally "out of touch" with ordinary New Yorkers who can still vividly remember 9/11.

I mean, this is so massively stupid it defies understanding.

Wow that is the dumbest thing ever. How can you not even inform the Mayor.

I think calling it insensitive like Bloomberg did is about right. They wanted to get some photos of planes going by land marks and were very nonchalant about informing everyone.

Great photo op! Sort of like "Mission Accomplished."

Well, Obama is ultimately responsible, but I think most people would recognize that scheduling photo ops for planes is handled at a level well below President. An employee screwed up, and another employee in Bloomberg's office screwed up by not telling the mayor about it.

While you are correct Barfo, do you not agree that Bush would have somehow been given some of the blame for this, had he been in office?

This is a dumb article. Obama didn't know about the photo op until after the fact, and wasn't on the plane. Not sure how this is his fault. Come on guys, there are alot of things to blame him for, but this isn't one of them.

Of course, and that would have been just as fair or unfair as blaming Obama for this. The guy at the top gets some blame when his subordinates screw up, even if they do so without his knowledge.

When told of the flight, President Barack Obama was furious...

    So much for that.

I just read about this. Crazy stuff. I can imagine what was going through the heads of people in Manhattan as they saw the plane flying through the city. Somebody needs a knock on their head for pulling such a stunt.

Of course, he was. He knows a public relations disaster when he sees it.

NateBishop... as to whether Bush would have been crucified... depends on when in his term. For most of his first term anyone who said a peep against Bush was anti-american... communist... terrorist or something else along those lines.

So at a similar place in both president's terms... no freaking way would anyone have said much about it.

I don't think I have ever seen so much complaining early in a presidency.

You ain't seen nuthin' yet. Wait till the majority of Americans realize what Obama is up to, and how he wants to fundamentally change this country. Then you're going to see some "real" complaining.

Even with the jet fighter flying behind it (which could make you think it was either being chased out, or guided in), that had to have been a panic inducing "stunt" to pull.

Incredibly stupid for the White House to not make 100% sure that city knew about it, and didn't make a public announcement about it. I don't think it's something that is worth pointing out (or comparing to some of the stupid things the Bush White House/administration did), because it's a weak argument to make.

Incredibly stupid stunt, but ultimately not enough of one to try to pin it on Obama. Pin it on the idiot who was in charge of the photo-op (what, is he the same idiot who was in charge of Bush's photo-ops?).

And really, who wants to see AF1 flying through the "Canyons" of NYC?

I hope the person that came up with this idea is shown the door immediately. As someone who worked in Lower Manhattan and who lost friends on 9/11, I can't believe this was allowed. I understand the reasoning for why only a few people were told of the flyby--AF1's route needs to be kept secret and secure--but this plane wasn't technically AF1. President Obama wasn't on it. EVERYONE should have been told about it the day before. That way the police could have stopped the panic.

The fact there were military jets following made it even scarier, IMO. I wouldn't have registered it as protecting the plane, but that military jets were scrambled to meet the threat. If I still would have been working there, you bet your ass I would have been one of those people abandoning my building.

I find it somewhat comical that the writer inserted "supersonic" before talking about the fighter jet.

    a) all US military fighters (F-15, F-16, F-18, F-22, F-35) with the exception of the F-117 Stealth Fighter, are supersonic-capable jets.

    b) Since the 747 it was following tops out at about Mach .84, the jet wouldn't be going supersonic.

    c) In fact, if it did, half of the windows in NYC would've been blown out, and then I'd imagine you have a real panic.

    Why do writers do this?
