i dont' really care for all that much. Miles' salary is going to be gone sooner or later, so its just a matter of timing
At least we've got the rest of the NBA scared of a team that hasn't even made the playoffs in a long time. Gotta love how the first rationale for keeping Miles around is to screw Portland, rather than trying to help their own team out who just won the NBA title.
The Celtics would do well just to cut Miles IMO. Really, once you guys are a major title threat, the Celtics no longer will be. So forcing Miles' salary onto you doesn't help the Celtics in any way, and I'd rather not do favors for Orlando/Cleveland/Philly.
The big three are the aging three, by the time we're title contenders Boston will be in the same position they were in two years ago.
KP has said that the Blazers will contest any attempt to put Miles's salary back on their books even if he does play ten games for the Celtics or some other team this season. They have their own doctor's opinion and an independent league doctor's confirmation that Miles knee injuries are career ending. If he chooses to continue to play, with an increasing risk that he'll need knee-replacement surgery as a result, that should be his decision and the decision of whatever ethics-challenged GM out there who will sign him. IMO, the Blazers shouldn't get tagged with a financial hit because of those decisions.
I agree completely. The rule was put in place so the same team wouldn't resign him so I think the Blazers appeal and still get him off the books if he does play. Regardless it really doesn't make much difference. I don't see any great free agents this summer. IMO they will do a trade at the deadline- Raef and a combination of Travis or Webster for either an upgrade at SF or PG.
