I have a guaranteed way to predict who will win the AFC....this will also let you know why Im so damn frustrated about the Dolphins every year at this time.....over the last 5 years, the eventual AFC Champion has been beaten(and in most cases, quite soundly) by the Miami Dolphins during the regular season..... 2002....Oakland loses to Miami in week 15, putting Miami in control of its own destiny...that win propelled the Dolphins to the front of the pack in the race for home field advantage throughout the playoffs, if the Dolphins could win thier last 2 games, they were the #1 seed....they didnt, in fact, they lost both and missed the playoffs....Oakland went on to the Super Bowl 2001....New England comes to Miami for an early season game, I believe it may have been Brady's 1st start(maybe his 2nd, cant remember)....Fiedler throws a quick pick that is returned for a TD but the rest of the day belongs to the fish, as they blow out the Patriots 31-7.....Miami would make the playoffs as a wild card team and lose to the Ravens in the 1st round....NE would go on to win the Super Bowl 2000....Baltimore visits the Dolphins on a rainy Sunday Night....Electricity fills the air as Dan Marino is placed in the "Ring of Honor" at Pro Player....The Dolphins beat the hell out of Tony Banks and the Raven 19-6....The Dolphins win thier Division and a playoff game, before getting smoked by the Raiders 27-0 in the 2nd round....Dilfer takes Banks job and the Ravens go on to win the Super Bowl.... 1999....Tennessee visits the Dolphins on a Sunday night....I spent the day from noon on at the hospital awaiting the birth of my 1st child....I watched the 1pm and 4 pm games with the doctor and he assured me the birth wouldnt happen until after the late game(dont wanna miss that Dolphin game)....Sam Madison picks off 3 Steve McNair passes in leading the Dolphins to an impressive 17-0 shutout of the Titans....the game ends around 11:30pm and my daughter is born at 12:19am....all in all, quite an exciting night for me.....by the way, the Titans go all the way to the Super Bowl, the Dolphins make the playoffs and beat Seattle in the 1st round, but then get smoked 62-7 at Jacksonville....this is Dan Marino's last game ever(Jimmy Johnson quit too, and the Teflon Era begins)..... 1998....Denver is rolling along at 13-0 until the NY Giants knock them from the realm of the unbeaten....the next week they visit Miami and the Dolphins really lay it to them....Denver still gets a bye and homefield, and the Dolphins have to play in the Wild Card round....Miami wins its opening game setting up a rematch in Denver for the right to go to the AFC Championship game....needless to say, Denver beats the hell out of the Dolphins(38-3 I think was the score), and they go on to win thier 2nd straight Super Bowl..... So,what does this mean for this year??? Of the 6 AFC teams in the playoffs this year, only NE, Indy, Tenn, and Baltimore played the Dolphins(sorry Broncos and Chiefs, your not eligible)....of those teams, only the Ravens lost to Miami, and therefore, they are going to the Super Bowl...you cant argue with fate! (I bet you Patriots fans wish you could have that overtime Brady to Brown TD pass back now, you guys blew your chance to win the big one with that!)
Beef's theory may not be totally scientific. There is some logic and rationale behind which IMO makes its sad but true. Does this mean Pittsburgh or Denver may win the AFC in 2004?
if this holds true, the teams with a chance to go to the Super Bowl next year would be Miami(god knows they beat themselves all the time), NE, NYJ, Buf, Pitt, Balt, Cinc, Cle, Den, and Tenn.....to all others??? thanks for playing, we have some lovely parting gifts for you!
i say buffalo wins it all next year. bradshaw giving bledsoe the lombadi "drew could you tell earlier this year that this sucky team on paper would win the SB?" yea once we were beaten by the dolphis so bad i knew it
By that logic, Buffalo should be representin' this year after getting soundly thrashed by Miami twice! Circle those wagons, boys!
oh my god, can i never get away from this insane theory if yours????? i have to listen to him ramble this theory off every single time we talk about the super bowl(and thats a lot). it is lunacy, sheer lunacy, but i think you may be right so if the dolphins go 0-12 vs the afc then the afc title is their's for the taking because no one meet the criteria . . what's that. . . they would not make playoffs. . . oh well, i guess they are out of luck.
Of all the people to question this thoery, Im the most suprised at you...this is the same guy that comes up with things like: the Bears are 10-0 against the spread in their last 10 games in which Urlacher had Post RaisenBran for breakfast eaten out of a blue or orange bowl, while hopping on one foot, on a day in which the tempature was under 40 degrees or over 70 degrees, with a wind chill within 8 degrees of the tempeture, on days other than Sunday, Saturday, Monday, or Thursday....
Very interesting and good point beef, lol you should of sent this story to the phins owner therefore he could of looked at this thread and used it as leverage for wannys payroll, wow. Is that bad coaching or what, do you feel that you guys needed a replacment at the head coaching job?
This is the reason Im so frustrated, because for the past 5 years the Dolphins have been good enough to tease me with huge wins over top tier teams, only to watch those teams go on and achieve the goal of making the Super Bowl, thats very frustrating....I would imagine it is similar to what a Bucs fan felt before they won the Super Bowl....
Actually reading this thread first thing came to my mind was dungy. It sounds like dungy's time in tampa. However since wansthad has been in miami he has been 10 wins every year. I just think dave may have to give jobo some rum next year before them games especially before playoffs lol. I know how you feel.
