The Lakers traded Brian Cook and Maurice Evans to Orlando for Trevor Ariza. I like this trade because we get an explosive, young, long defensive player, and get rid of a soft player in Cookie and an underachiever in Maurice.

I always liked Mo but Ariza has a lot of potential, gives the Lakers an athletic wing who can rebound, and they cleared over 2.5 mil off the cap.
What I am trying to figure out is where they are going with this move. Obviously, this move was not made to pick up a player they think is going to come in and make a difference.

They just talked about it on SportsCenter.
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lakerr...1&cset=true

http://www.nba.com/lakers/news/071120_lake...quireariza.html
I didn't realize he was from UCLA. He must be glad to be coming back to LA then. I bet a lot of Bruins will be Lakers fans now with Ariza and Farmar on the team.

**BREAKING NEWS**
Brian Cook fails his physical, therefore the trade has been voided (I just heard on ESPN)
just kidding, im so happy cook is gone now, im gonna go streaking!!!!!!!

QUOTE (lakerman34)

Where did you hear that this trade was voided? I don't believe that for a second.

I DONT EITHER. THEY JUST NOW ANNOUNCED IT ON NBA TV. IM GONNA MISS MO.

Brian Cook isn't in good enough shape to sit on the bench? I don't get how he fails the physical.
This deal isn't going to make or break either team's season, it might be delayed since Cook failed his physical, but eventually it should get done.

I like this deal for LA. They get rid of a stiff in Cook, get a younger/longer version of Mo Evans to begin with, and definitely win the deal financially.

MY ONLY CONCERN IS THAT THIS MOVE THROWS OFF THE SECOND UNTI. I GUESS WE WILL SEE IN JUST A BIT WHEN THE GAME STARTS. WE WONT HAVE ARIZA YET BUT NO MO OR COOK.

Ariza is just as athletic as Mo, but has better size and is a pitbull on the defensive end.
The icing on the cake is unloading Brian Cook who's been a locker room cancer. We get some cap space out of the deal as well since Orlando was able to use the $2.5M Injury Exception from Battie, which allowed us to send out $5M and take bake $2.7M.
The Lakers have an extra roster spot now, I wonder if they plan on signing anyone?

I think this was a pretty good dealfor Orlando, and an alright one for LA. Ariza's a good defender, and the Magic get two more good shooters to go with Dwight Howard.
