I have one question, what makes people think/say that K-mart is a bully ( and the list goes on...), what has he done that I've missed? just curious.
He plays with so much passion, it intimidates some opponets. So people might view him as a bully. I just see him as a passionate, energic player with a attitude that doesnt allow him to back down. Thats why I have nothing but love for K-Mart.(I pray the basketball gods & Rob Thorn doesnt allow him to leave this summer) but if he does, I will continue to surport Kenyon to the fullest whether he is a Net or not.
Yeah. Although it is true that he used to pick up flagrant fouls and fights but he matured into a professional player. But that doesn't mean he'll back down from anybody. He's still the Nets' enforcer. He doesn't care if you're MVP's like TD or KG or if you're just plain scary like Big Ben, he'll protect himself and the team.
he built the rep in his first two years as a player who is a tough guy and got flagrant foul after flagrant foul. towards the end of the season he was getting suspended b/c he committed so many flagrant fouls. once you build a rep early in your career, it might take a while for people to forget about it and realize he is a different player and has changed. he has since then improved his temper and has controlled it extremely well. yeah there was that one breakout with corey in the clippers/nets game when the nets were blowing out the clippers where hands/arms got by each others throats and a little scuffle broke out. like the guys have said, he doesnt back down. he gets high on emotion and thats how he plays and thats a big reason why the nets have been the eastern conference champions two years in a row. there are a lot of kmart haters b/c of what he did in the past. people think he is just in the game to knock people down and dunk the ball. yet people don't watch him mature over that 3yrs from his rookie year, yet i dont expect him b/c he isnt on their team. if you watch the nets on a consistant basis, you can see him mature year by year and you can appreciate the intensity and emotional lift that he brings to this team. he can do more than just be an enforcer and dunk, he can lead this team and he has improved his overall game. he would improve even more if he had inside help. kmart and rasheed are basically in the same boat. except some might argue that rasheed has a worse rep b/c he has had it longer than kmart. both have matured but most people are going to remember sheed in his portland outrageous days, but kmart shouldnt b/c it was basically a 1year thing and a little bit in yr2 b/c that was the year we went to the finals vs the lakers and he was more incontrol that year.
Oh and have you seen him block shots? Those are bully blocks. Check out nba.com's top ten blocks of the year. He's number 1.
K-mart just leaves so much on the court when he plays...He plays his *** off every night. His dunks are amazing is passion for the game is unbeleavable. The only thing he has to work on is his low post moves...Most of his points come off dunks and lay ups (not that there's anything wrong with that)
Kmart is an intimidator, once he gets to the player he feeds off of that energy of fear and continues to use it against him. He is great at that mind game.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"A lot of guys are intimidated by him," Kerry Kittles says of Martin, who only had one flagrant foul this season. "You see guys back away from him when he drives. He'll run into them with his shoulder on purpose and they won't do anything about it."</div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"In our family, he's the big, tough brother, the protector," point guard Jason Kidd says. "He's the one who, if you're going to school and someone is threatening to take your lunch money, you say K-Mart is your big brother, and everyone will leave you alone."</div> That's how he is to the Nets and the whole league knows that.
Only positive reactions here about K-mart, where did all the negativity go we used to see here? Where's Olskoolfunktitude when you need him? BTW. I love K-mart's playing style
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kareem.02:</div><div class="quote_post">I have one question, what makes people think/say that K-mart is a bully ( and the list goes on...), what has he done that I've missed? just curious. </div> Depends on what kind of bully. Last season he made a classless act insulting Zo's kidney problems. Heres the article for those of you who didn't hear about it: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Mourning, who is 33 and suffers from a kidney ailment that may eventually require a transplant, was obviously struggling and was the last player in his group to cross the finish line. As he walked gingerly toward some chairs, Mourning noticed Martin laughing at him. Jefferson, who was seated nearby, was laughing too. Mourning, who apparently was bothered more by Martin's laughter, glared at Martin and said, "Don't laugh, bitch." Next, Martin apparently told Mourning that the team wouldn't have been running suicides if he had pulled down more than one rebound in the Nets' 88-85 loss to Charlotte on Tuesday. Mourning responded by telling Martin, who missed five games earlier this season due to an ankle injury, to worry about staying on the court and out of the trainer's room. That's when Martin, who was smirking during most of the exchange, delivered what could be considered a low blow, saying something to Mourning about his kidney problem.</div> http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketba...2p-123269c.html I'd consider that more punk than bully, but it was rude nonetheless. However, he's learned to control his emotions over the years.
^ Yeah that was uncalled for. But he asked for forgiveness, Zo forgave him. He even has Zo's number in his legs. He matured a lot after that incident.
That was totally uncalled for and he should know that if Zo was health we would have beat him down but Zo is a professional that is why it didnt escalate higher then that
we all know that was wrong to say, but tempers were flaring. thing were not going our way at the time and when things are going wrong, people have a tendency to get on each other to let thier anger out. zo said something to kmart, kmart said something back, it is kind of a normal thing in society. of course kmart and zo are superstars and in the public eye so whatever they say gets criticized and makes them look bad. but we all know he didn't really mean it. it was just a comeback b/c it was probably the first thing that came to his mind. bottom line it was still horrible to say, but it isn't like kmart is bigger "punk" than anyone else. im not trying to defend kmart's words b/c it was bad to say,but im just saying his personalitly and him as a human being shouldnt be heavily based on what argument btw zo and kenyon. i know people are going to look at this saying im trying to 'defend my boy'(as wilbon and tony say on pti), but i just think that was the real kmart and is a more mature player year by year and him and zo got caught up in the middle of something infront of the media and it was tough luck. ps. feel better zo. you need to be healthy for ur fam and become a coach and teach players how to be realy centers.
