I read in a Kings thread that Cuttino Mobley is opting out of his contract. Do you think this could be so he can make a return to Orlando to play with the Franchise? THis would help a lot because the team chemistry went out the window when he got traded for the aging Doug Christie.
Now that John Wesibrod is gone, the rumors about trading Francis have a died down a bit and I think bringing in Cuttino would be a great move. Cuttino is a great shooter and would add a three point shooter to our starting lineup. It would also help the chemistry like you said and keep Francis happy. I just wonder if Mobley would take a small pay cut to play with Francis because that would be even better. In the begining of last year the Magic were in first place in the Eastern Conference at one point. Then we traded Cuttino for Christie and things went downhill from there. If we can get Mobley back and stay healthy, I think the Magic will have a good shot at making the playoffs.
I think Cuttino would take the pay cut because he's never struck me as to being a very selfish player. Hopefully it works out for him and the Magic.
If Mobley signed with the Magic, I don?t know if it will be so great. The team played very well with the perimeter presence he provided. Maybe this will also get Francis to change his attitude. Even if this took place, I still wouldn?t say the Magic should sign back Mobley. The first thing that comes to my mind is what will that do to Jameer Nelson again? Like it or not, Francis will get his 40 minutes a game and signing Mobley, you would expect him to play a big role on the team, which would likely be starting unless he is content coming off the bench which I doubt. Mobley is going to want to play at least his usual 35 minutes so that leaves 13 minutes at most for Nelson. I knew someone would say the Magic could use a perimeter threat to compliment Howard, but Turkoglu is still around and they can draft someone like Antoine Wright or Martell Webster in a few weeks who are excellent shooters, have great upsides and are immediate contributors. These two are bigger than Mobley and can play small forward unlike him. This allows the backcourt of Francis and Nelson to continue causing havoc to other teams and Nelson continues to develop as well. Mobley is nice and all, but the team seems to be going in a different direction with Mobley not being a part of the plans. Mobley would cause more problems than good at this stage in my opinion.
yeah I agree with mrj on this one, it would seriously stunt Nelson's development which would be stupid after he exceeded expectations last year and played well. I think they should draft a perimiter player that can share minutes with Nelson so you have a 3 guard rotation in Francis, Nelson and the draftee.
Theres 2 sides of Mobley coming back Good: Chemistry 3 point shooter Great Vrs the Knicks will never froget the inbounds steal he did the 1st time we played them last year + 30 points. Bad: Francis-Mobley show Dwight wont get the ball Nelson wont get time Maybes: Keep Stevio Pg keep Mobley Sg and give them less time put nelson off the bench or Get Mobley off the bench as a 7th man after Turk and have him behind Stevio. It will make us draft a Pf, or Center in the draft.
Just like us Rockets fans saw in Houston for 5 years, Steve and cat are the same type of player...both need the ball to be effective and both crave the isolation game and dont necessarily have complete trust in their teammates...that being said, I would love for cat to come back to Houston...he's a great slasher, good 3-point shooter and is improving as a perimeter defender year by year...however, him and francis BOTH in the same backcourt is not the most healthy option for your team, or any other team for that matter...
The desired team chemistry is everyone being able to do stuff with or without the ball. Cat needs the ball and so does steve. I doubt either will be on our team next year and if 1 is steve will be the sg not the pg. Taking looks from the best pure pg on the team (jameer) and possibly even in the division is not a good thing.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a rule in the NBA forbidding free agents to sign back with a team that traded him less than a year ago?
I'm not sure because Elden Campbell was traded from the Pistons to the Nets I think and they waived him and he ended up resigning with the Pistons, the same thing happened with Payton when he got traded to the Hawks this year. Anyways I think that signing Mobley would be a good idea because when he was healthy and playing the Magic were doing well, if you don't remember they got off to a fast start until the injuries came around mainly to Cuttino. I wouldn't be too concerned about Jameers playing time, with Grant Hill getting older maybe it is possible to see a Jameer(PG), Francis(SG), and Mobley(SF) trio on the floor more often.
Yeah but that was because they were waived. I see your point but I just don't think the NBA would allow teams to trade pending free agents for other players, then sign that player back when his contract runs out.
