This past Tuesday, I had a heart attack. Rushed to a Cardiac Care Center. Came through a peripheral catheterization where a stent was placed to clear the artery. The sad part was I had no idea I was having a heart attack. The surgeon assured me that I was very fortunate and I could continue living with dietary restrictions. Just letting all know, life surely is fleeting. No more Cheetos for me. It's strange and funny of all the thing I will miss......food wise. Good to be back. Oh BTW, I got to witness the whole procedure. I really did not want to make a separate thread, but I couldn't find a place to let you know.........unlike our friend Rick!
So sorry Cage, I hope you are feeling better. Life takes it's turns just like my grandmother. She was fine one day and 2 days later she died. God Bless and be well always.
...holy crap !...that's scary, but glad to hear it ended up being a medical/dietary wake up call instead of something worse. My wife and I have both decided on our own to being more conscious of what and how much we eat because both of our lipids/cholesterol levels are borderline high and my glucose (104 average) and blood pressure (140/90) are borderline high although I have recently read that many doctors now consider that sort of BP to be the "new normal" for people my age. ...but give up Chee-tos?....NEVAH !!!...they now have a couple of "reduced fat" versions but I've never tried them. ...seriously though, I'm glad you're OK.
Damn Cage, it's too early to depart just yet..... you've got a 20 year contract obligation to this board, beyond life and death, so make sure you take your I-phone with you, when it's time to check out.... please...! Ya' gotta' post from the beyond, you read the revised rules, right....? glad to hear you're ok, that's the bitch about cardio probs, one never knows when thy hit, thus "the silent killer". I know I'm preaching to the choir here.... my younger brother (yet considerably bigger in size), checked out due to a fatal cardiac blow out which left a 1/4" hole in his heart.... a day that will live beyond infamy, grief and suffering....! He turned 37, just 7 days prior. That was 9 yrs ago, and I was old enough to be his father, and he felt as much like my son, as my only brother... Take care of yourself; no cheetos, no mac & cheese, no pizza, no spagoli, no lasagna, no manicotti, no butter, no this no that, no smokes, no brewksi's.....no, no, no, fk no sometimes ya' gotta' live....! Here's to your health...
That's the spirit 59, NEVAH, will they take your cheetos from your bloody hands, as they'd have to shoot ya' first....go down with the ship, my new motto....! Keep those violins playing while we reset the chairs on the deck of the Titanic....! My own BP has been 149/98 on the average for the last 33 yrs; and that's ON two BP meds. I've been prescribed damn near every BP med of every type, mao, ace, all kinds of inhibitors, and numerous blockers, calcium channel, beta, et al. My brother at age 27 was also put on BP meds. My Son at age 27 was put on BP meds. with all the great food of Middle Georgia, its gotta' be a challenge, as great as cuisine gets, esp the BBQ, and again, I am preaching to the choir, so STFU Matts...! there I told myself...!
^^^yeah, about once a year I go to the county health department and for $45 they take 3 vials of blood and check EVERYTHING...even PSA levels...and like I said the results from that blood work came in the mail to me in a PDF file and anything outside the "normal" ranges was highlighted. Although not drastically high, some of my numbers were higher than what doctors claim is "normal" and so, at that point my wife and I are making a concerted effort to watch what and how much we eat...we both could stand to lose about 10-15 pounds also. ...so we'll give it a go for 2-3 months and retest lipids, glucose, etc., and compare the results. The toughest thing for both of us will probably be cutting back on the beer (mostly Mich Ultra)
I too have High Blood Pressure due to stress. My Doctor gave me Tranquilizers. I haven't even taken one because I have Vertigo and that will trigger an attack.
Godspeed to a healthy heart cage. As for diet changes, while initial modifications for 6 months to allow for attaining better fitness, weight and conditioning...And it can be a long 6 months, it's never a case of ever/never. Occasional cheats and moderation are expected. Living here on Germany, some of the diets would kill most Americans who are sedentary or drive everywhere. But I've noticed in the past week I'm burning an extra 1000-1500 calories a day. That's a lot of Cheetos, lol!
Stress....at your age. Fuck that shit. I have several siblings and each one is so toxic. Cannot be around them for too long. Stress is gone. LOL
My problem is I'm high strung and can't sit still for 5 minutes. I drive people around me crazy. The only time I sit down is at night when I have my Wine.
High strung, or strung high? - - You're the prior, I'm the latter...??? lol... It's quit ok Lil'; you're in the company of strangers, ...... oops, I mean in the company of Friends, and a band of brothers, - .... btw- whatever happened to Jill, ie Jeterules.... anyone know...?
She popped on The Trade Talk Thread a couple of times but I haven't seen her around lately. I think It would be so cool if one day all of us could meet for Dinner in a neutral location. Being that we are scattered all over the place that would likely be impossible. I would truly make your heads spin.
