P.K. Subban gets 8-year deal...$9m/yr. WOOOOOW. He's definitely one of the top defensemen in the league but, I imagine there are a good number of defensemen in the league at his level (including McDonagh) that may be using this contract as a comparison for their next deal. YIKES.

Ouch. That's a rough contract. I like Subban (as a player, i think he's a douche) but this contract is going to be a nightmare. These freaking owners just don't learn, then again, this type of contract is allowed within the CBA.

McD is locked up for the next 5yrs at what is now a very favorable contract, so no concerns there, but other Dmen who are up for a renewal just had their xmas.

eh, Staal and Subban are opposite type of players. Staal is more defensive minded and Subban is offensive minded and challenged defensively. I don't think it's a direct comp to Staal when it comes to negotiations, but i do think all D-men in general just got a raise.

Yep, I know they aren't really comparables, but like you said, I was thinking that might mean raises across the board for d-men.

Wonder if Sather thought of this in putting off Staal negotiations until after all the RFA's were taken care of....

u mean staal is more the absent minded dman, i'm really starting to believe dman in the NHL stink as a whole, after all if they were that good they would be on the offensive end
