PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers waived guard Aaron McKie on Friday and signed free agent Steven Hunter. Ok.. i looking around the Sixers blog..and found out that the Sixers waived Aaron Mckie. I dont know a whole bunch about him, but i so know that he can play decent basketball offesne/defense. should the Rockets go for him?!? ? ?
haven't seen enough of Mckie lately to know if he would be a good pickup.....if this was 3 or 4 years ago, I'd definitely say yes.....but I'm not sure if he's still the decent player that he once was.
Mckie's a good locker room presence- a great vocal leader, but at this point in his career, he's not too much effective offensively, just someone that is brought into games to play defense. If we signed him, he would probably be a third stringer for shooting guard behind Wesley and Barry. I'd prefer if we were to sign a shooting guard, that he would be able to start and actually make an impact on the team.
I agree, Mckie isn't bad but can't make the rotation. We have ALOT of guards, yet none of them seem to really hold their own as starters. This means that we can't go for good bench playing guards because we have enough of them and we need more than that.
I like the idea of McKie as a Rocket but whose minutes would he take? I suppose him and JB could split time depending on the matchups? I like McKie as a defender and a passer, plus he can shoot a little...
Mckie used to be a great shooter didn't he...I saw/read/used him in a video game somewhere and he seemed pretty good, could he play SF at all and back up T-Mac? I don't know a whole lot about him...

At this point, he's a little better than Ryan Bowen in terms of playing small forward but he doesn't exactly have the quickness that Bowen does to really be great on defense. Don't get me wrong, he's a good defender and leader but thats about it. Last season he didn't shoot that much at all, maybe three shots a game so its hard to evaluate how good of a shooter he is now.

Mckie is aging, but for a last resort, wouldn't be that bad.

I wouldn't understand us signing Mckie though, he wouldn't make that much of an impact on the team and doesn't exactly crack our rotation. He's just about as effective as Bowen at this point.
If we are at the point where McKie is the only respectable free agent left, I'd rather take Dion Glover. At least Glover is younger and won't be as easily injured. Also, Bowen might not be athletically gifted, but his hustle and determination makes him always one of the first guys down the court on the break. For that, I'm a fan.
I'd pass on Aaron McKie, he's far too, slow to keep in front of anyone in the league. He might be a good locker room player, but the Rockets already have great team chemistry. The Rockets have plenty of guards as is, and Luther Head is a better option as a rookie to play the combo-guard role. I think the Rockets would be better off landing one more big, instead of adding another guard. They should be able to get Elden Campbell, Bo Outlaw, Andrew DeClerq, Christian Laettner, Tractor Traylor, Calvin Booth, or Ervin Johnson for cheap. Just another inside presence to pick up fouls and beat people up on the inside.
