Abdur Rahim-"I've commited to the Nets."

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">July 19, 2005 -- The Nets are going to get Shareef Abdur-Rahim.
    The only question is how.

"Shareef has decided that New Jersey is the place he wants to play next year," Aaron Goodwin, Abdur-Rahim's agent, said last night.

"I've committed to the Nets, that New Jersey is the place I want to be," Abdur-Rahim said last night. "We're still working toward a six-year deal. But I'm committed to New Jersey." </div>

Someone should merge/close the other SAR threads.

our bench looks like it will be Jason Collins, Travis Best, Rodney Buford, Jaque Vaughn. They can still sign some other FA's to get help on the bench, other than that they look pretty solid to me. Please stop the sarcasm because this tema could whip the Lakers.

So if we acquire Keyon Dooling our roster so far would look like this:

    C: Nenad Krstic
    PF: Shareef Abdur-Rahim
    SF: Richard Jefferson
    SG: Vince Carter
    PG: Jason Kidd
    1: Antoine Wright
    2: Jason Collins
    3: Keyon Dooling
    4: Jacque Vaughn
    5: Zoran Planinic
    6: Ron Mercer
    7:

Best, Buford, Jabari Smith, and Billy Thomas are all Free Agents, so we'll see what happens with them.

<strike>better than your Lakers iceman. they couldnt even compete with our Roster.</strike>

<font color="Blue">All he mentioned was the possibility of having a weak bench. There is no need to even mention the Lakers as they have nothing to do with the topic and were not even brought up. - Hunter</font>

What the heck is wrong with the News today? The Post, the Daily News, ESPN, this:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Nets got their man yesterday, and it was only because Shareef Abdur-Rahim is less greedy than his former employer.

The free-agent forward agreed to accept the lesser of two contract offers yesterday -- a five-year deal that will total $27 million to $30 million -- after the Nets failed to negotiate a better contract in a sign-and-trade scenario with the Portland Trail Blazers.

The agreement, which cannot be announced until Friday -- ostensibly the day the new collective bargaining agreement is signed -- was confirmed by agent Aaron Goodwin, whose 28-year-old client is expected to step right into the Nets' starting lineup at power forward. </div>

    Source

    , and this:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Beyond all the tricky posturing and negotiations between the Nets, Portland Trail Blazers and Shareef Abdur-Rahim's representation, there were two steadfast truths.

Abdur-Rahim wanted to play for the Nets. And the Nets wanted the star forward to be the next piece of their championship puzzle.</div>

    Source

I still however don't quite believe that the Nets got him...I probably won't believe it until either Rahim comes to my home and tells me or July 22/23 comes along.

I think that there is something wrong with me.

If the Nets really did sign SAR, then I'd like them to sign Dooling, followed by either Songalia or Marshall (or both, which is theoretically possible if Marshall takes the other half of the mid-level, and Songalia take the 1.5 low-level exemption). Too bad Jarron Collins is not a free agent [IMG]. After Rahim, the Nets need to attain two more big-men inorder to round out thier depth.

Did u read the first post? It's has SAR saying that he commited to the Nets. It's not official til the 22nd but he's commited which means that we most likely are going to sign him.

Playmaker31 u get something wrong..i like Nets too and yes they are much better team than Lakers and i only mentioned that they have still weak bench..imo if they can make their bench bit stronger they can be better team than Heat in 2005/2006.I will be suprised if Lakers makes to PO's with this roster .

They won't be better than Miami. Miami blew them out of the water last year and SAR isn't going to put them past Miami or Indiana. I love the Nets, but thy are the third team in the east right now becuse Larry Brown is gone from Detroit.

Okay i have to agree with u , they can't be better than Miami YET ,but still 2. I don't think that Indiana is better than NJ if all main guy's can stay healty.

I did, I kinda believe it now...I woke up and saw all of this...took me a while to digest it [IMG].

Here's the Roster I think is likely to pan out:

    Kidd / Dooling / Vaughn

    Carter / Wright / Dooling / Vaughn / Mercer

    Jefferson / Wright / Mercer

Rahim / Songalia or Cliff Robinson (at the very least)

    Kristic / Collins

The Depth at PG and SG is astounding. At the SF its adequet. At the PF and C it is barely adequet. If Kristic or Collins gets hurt for a few games, then there is back up to either of them. Same thing with the PF. The Nets'll have to get another big man to prevent such a thing from occurring. Both Songalia and Robinson are a good option. However, would not it be even better if the Nets halted the pursuit of Dooling and instead attempted to get Marshall for the full MLE (this is assuming that a sign and trade is work out with Portland)?

    Kidd / Vaughn

    Carter / Wright / Vaughn / Mercer

    Jefferson / Wright / Mercer / Marshall

    Rahim / Marshall

    Kristic / Collins

Maybe, but Artest, O'Neal, Tinsley, and the young stud Granger is a pretty nasty combo. Not to mention that they also have Stephen Jackson and a great role player in Jeff Foster.

And most scary thing for me is that Cavs signed Marshall and maybe now they can't get Sarunas and Indiana is going to take him =/.

    C:Jeff Foster
    PF:Jermaine Oneal
    SF:Arterst
    SG:Jackson
    PG:Sara

    bench:Tinsley,Granger,Fred Jones,Johnson

NJ has a great lineup offensively but I'll bet they give up the post PPG next season. They better get an interior defender before the season starts.
