...as a parent I can understand how he wants to spend time with his Son...but I can certainly understand the White Sox position too. ...walking away from $13 Mil?...sorry Adam, I just don't see it.
I was just about to post this Ron. It wasn't that the Sox were saying his son couldn't be in the club house or on the field, they were just saying it couldn't be 24/7. And yeah walking away from $13M in what (in all likelihood) would have been his final season was just nuts.
...that's my feelings too...plus, after last year's performance, or lack thereof, LaRoche is in no position to be take this stance, not to mention walking away from that much money.
If the kid was really there every single day then that's a problem. There's no job in the world that has a bring you kid to work everyday policy. I'm sure they like the kid and he helped out a lot but at the end of the day this is a group of men that I'm sure if asked privately would say they don't want a kid as a constant presence.
One would think, if he were thinking of his Son's long term future, he'd take that 13 Mil, to ensure his Son was taken care of, ..... unless he doesn't need the money, but, I doubt that is the case.....
Plus, lets not forget this. While the manager or GM Kenny Williams might have had some concerns and issues with it. I would bet that some complaints were coming from the players.
Per MLB Almanac Mr. La Roache has racked up about 70 mil in his career so I guess he figured he could pass on an extra 13.

Yeah I saw some weren't going to play their spring training game in protest. The issue is they let him do it last year when they shouldn't of and now decided to say something about it. I'm sure he loves his son to death but if I was running a team I'm sorry. The children of players aren't going to be a constant presence everywhere I look. Plus, I read something where the guy made a good point. Where does it end? What if ten players wanted to do this or twenty?
Holy shit, talk about taking things to far. Adam, with the way you played last year you're lucky to get the $13M. Play your final year, take the money, donate it or invest it, STFU & after the 2016 season you can spend the rest of your life with your son. Lighten up.
Now wait a second..... 1. It's his career, he can do as he pleases. 2. He had an agreement before signing with the GM and the kid had been there the year before and also during hit stint in DC. He made a decision not based on consequences, but rather family and principles. I say bravo!
...verbal agreements don't hold water, that's why conditions are written into contracts...and I doubt LaRoche said or implied that his kid would be there every day. ...and I also doubt that Ken Williams just woke up one day and for no reason said, "I think I'll piss LaRoche off by telling him to dial it back on bringing his kid with him every day". Gotta believe that there were others who had a problem with it. IMO, LaRoche is being unrealistic and totally inflexible about this whole thing.
I'm sure Williams is not saying that the kid can never be in the club house or on the field again, just that he needs to cut it back a little. Besides IMO the club house is no place for a young boy when grown men are standing talking about WHATEVER & injecting colorful language.

Rob that's the point....to him it was worth the consequences. Again I applaud his convictions. I wish we had someone willing to take a $$$ hit to expose Cashman as the fraud he is.
Yes, I know, I couldn't help myself, in saying throw the baby out with the bathwater, a pun only.... I get it, had I of been in his shoes, and I do believe there are more underlying reasons b/t LaRoche, His Team Mates, and the Brass on this subject alone. Sale seemed to of defined that, and yeah, if I were in LaRoche's shoes, I'd be pissed beyond belief.... but not buckle up, take it in stride, and take that 13 Mil, and yes, I am greedy.... Tho', I wonder just how much time did his kid spend in the dugout, not during games surely...?
