"With the team heading to China immediately after Sunday's game, Rockets coach Rick Adelman decided to rest starters Yao Ming, Shane Battier and Luis Scola in Sunday's 99-93 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers at Toyota Center.

Minutes for Aaron Brooks and Kevin Martin also were limited.

That gave Adelman a chance to look at some younger players, among them Ish Smith,Patrick Patterson , Jordan Hill, Antonio Anderson, Mike Harris, Jermaine Taylor and Courtney Lee.

"Every time I'm on the floor is a big game for me," said Hill, who had eight points and six rebounds in 27 minutes. "I just have to go out there and show them I want to be out there."

Center Brad Miller said his sprained left ankle continues to improve to the point he's hopeful he might be able to play in Saturday's second exhibition against the New Jersey Nets in China."
