Why? The dude's been around the NBA for 40 years. He knows what it takes to build a good team, he'd just need a Tom Penn type around him.
He's too accomplished to be an assistant coach. I like that he's still interested in working for Allen.
He kept a keg in his office when he was head coach in Portland. He'd need a full mini-bar if he were GM.
I'd do this for the sole reason that he wouldn't be persuaded by Nate McMillan. He's been associated with the NBA in some form since 1968. I'd say he's qualified just as long as he has a number cruncher, contract negotiating assistant (like a Rich Cho/Tom Penn).
We've supposedly had the "best cap geniuses" and they couldn't even trade out RLEC, which was considered one of the best trade assets in NBA history. Who's miami's CBA expert? who's dallas'? who gives a fuck, they just went out and built a team instead of worrying about the math of it.
I couldn't agree more. Adelman knows what makes a good team, and only needs a capologist next to him.
Paul wanted him fired as head coach. Petrie then resigned as GM because of it. Does anyone really think Paul would tbring him back as GM? Now that is funny.
People can change their minds after a couple of decades. Not saying that Allen has, but he may now have realized that Adelman was an asset, not a liability. I don't agree with those who want to just fire McMillan and then find someone. I think that's the way you end up making bad, desperate hires. But I'd be fine with McMillan's dismissal if they would hire Adelman.
What does it matter who the GM is? They're just an order-taker for Allen and Kolde. We might as well hire the guy from the Wendy's drive-thru; at least he has his own headset.
